Reviews

Wordiezett So much average
Chirphymium It's entirely possible that sending the audience out feeling lousy was intentional
Rosie Searle It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.
Dana An old-fashioned movie made with new-fashioned finesse.
DrRicketts Well, not much more I can say that hasn't already been said. Bad lines, horrible acting, you could see the ending long before it got close. Bad games, very unrealistic. chains around a door that wouldn't keep my six year old in, nobody thinks to pickup the GUN, *SPOILER* (maybe..) and the whole, "Im in the control room but I'm not gonna break everything around me" bit was just stupid. I can see why everyone is so angry, it could have been a real movie, if there was ONE competent person working for the film crew and directors. Although it was a good movie to do my homework while it was on, I got disgusted so much I quit paying attention and got my work done. Only saving grace was a FEW gross scenes, but not many. Don't waste your time unless you REALLY want to waste your time! And now, I'm off to watch "Are You Scared 2"....Looks as bad as the first so far!
Victor Fritz This movie was the worst I've ever seen. The acting particularly by one of the girls was horrible. Don't see it It really is a copy of SAW and it's not even funny. It's only a bad bad movie. The makeup at the "crazy man" is terrible, the acting, the "action- scenes" and the hole story sucks! Some movies are so bad that they are fun to watch but not this one. Save some time and pick another one. I don't think any horror movie have good actors but this one took the price. It was my girlfriend who wanted to See this movie and I said to her "But don't you see it's a copy of SAW i promise" and yes it really was. Sometimes the camera-work was terrible but sometimes it was okay but not more. I'm not a movie-expert but this I can tell you to stay away! People in horror-movies may be stupid but not like they where in this one. It's not easy to do a good horror movie so too the writer I've only got one thing to say. Start with some homemade family-movies and then you can film birds in your garden. Know your strengths!Thankyou
jadedgreen13 This is THE worst movie I've seen in my entire life. Snakes on a Plane looked like 5 stars compared to this. You need to see this movie. I laughed my butt off the whole time. It is one of the most entertaining pieces of film I've ever seen. The fact that it's SO bad makes it good. I can laugh and watch stupid people die in a gory way at the same time. I don't know about you, but I get a kick out of horrible movies. I could tell it was going to be crap during the first scene because of the camera work. It looked so bad.Even The acting was bad. I haven't even heard of any of the actors in it. It'll make you appreciate crappy movies like Texas Chainsaw massacre, because it's at least got somewhat good acting, the camera work is normal, and the characters aren't stupid, well not as stupid as this movie's. I guess it could be compared to Saw, in the fact that you have to hurt yourself to live and a demented guy is watching people die but other than that, it's not alike. I can't even think of another movie that could compare to how bad this was. If you have time to waste, invest it in this movie. Are you scared is priceless.
DrWillHatch I caught this last night on television, and the premise sounded interesting enough, a play on peoples fear of reality TV shows. While I am a fan of some reality TV shows, I certainly recognize the inherent wrongness in some of the shows. Aside from the obvious privacy issues, where are the ethics in whats OK and what crosses the line in exploitation? Usually I would say "consent", but sometimes I wonder. In this film, the unlucky participants applied to a show titled "Are You Scared?", which to them probably meant something along the lines of the relatively harmless "Fear Factor". Alas, they are chosen when they least expected it. They were kidnapped and awoke it a run down building, trapped there by the insane host. This is a rip off of the "Saw" movies, which I found to be very unsettling because of the mean spiritedness of the Jigsaw Killer, but I was utterly bored by the dialog and acting in them. Here, the same is true for the most part, one scene with a male and female detective was enough for me to know that all subsequent scenes would be equally trite and boring, so I skipped all of the scenes containing them. I also skipped some useless scenes from the helpless victims inside the abandoned building. The actors portray stupid thoughts and actions, in particular the first person to be offed, who does not realize that his life is in grave danger, despite having a surgical scar on his body that wasn't there before, and no one considers that they were kidnapped and drugged, brought here against their will. Not even the biggest "fame whore" would approve of that I don't think. However, during some scenes, these people are likable enough, they aren't scumbags who are being taught a lesson by an insane toymaker, like in the Saw movies. They are normal, everyday folk who are being put in a situation beyond their control, and what could be scarier then that? The death scenes are suitably gruesome and ironic, according to the fear of that person. The story itself and twist ending is mediocre, and while the victims are likable, no one in the movie leaves much of an impression, well, except for one scene. There is one scene in here that terrified me beyond belief. If you don't want to be spoiled, don't read the next paragraph. When it's the twin brother and sisters turn to die, the host plays a clip of their audition video. The brother says that he is not afraid of anything, and the sisters only fear is losing her brother. The game that the psychopathic host has set up for them is of course going to play on this in a cruel way. Both are hooked up to chairs, facing each other, and the host tells the brother(forgive me for not remembering their names, though it doesn't really matter in a film like this, does it?) to press a button or they'll be disqualified. This sets off a drill saw that will bore a hole into his brain unless the sister presses a button next to her, which then sets the drill in her direction. While there are countless scenes of terrible deaths in film and especially this kind of film, this partiular scene is utterly terrifying. In this moment, and this moment only, the emotional pull you have towards the characters is very strong, and thus, the quality of the acting is very good. You an see the love that these siblings have for each other, and you can see on their faces that they realize one of them is going to suffer a horrible death. Eventually, the brother sacrifices himself so the sister can live, and the totally understandable breakdown that follows is heartbreaking. It is meant to be a standard gory death typical of this horror sub genre("Torture Porn" is an apt descriptor for most of the trash that comes from this genre), but it is set up with such surprising emotional honesty and suspense(notice the music that is played in the intermediate stage before the twin brother gets killed) that it becomes a very memorable scene in an otherwise forgettable movie.Besides that one scene, the film has not much more to offer except for a likable cast, moody atmosphere and a few interesting exploitation deaths.
