Kattiera Nana I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.
LouHomey From my favorite movies..
Beystiman It's fun, it's light, [but] it has a hard time when its tries to get heavy.
Stoutor It's not great by any means, but it's a pretty good movie that didn't leave me filled with regret for investing time in it.
DKosty123 When I watched this one, I think it should have been called "Those Left Behind". The son of Robert Redford who is now deceased, is not really the focus of the story. The story is more about the surviving Dad, the widow daughter-in-law (JLO), and the bear mauled hired help (Freeman).I think Freeman makes out the best of the main players, as his dramatic acting style and personality are in top for here. A far as who steals the movie - Becca Gardner who plays Refords Grand Daughter does that. Her relationship and acting with all the characters is the most talented and extremely well done.Redford is okay as the Grandfather who is sad his son has left so soon which is what leads to the title. He died in an accident, and Redford does not want to face it. It is finally the Grand Daughter and Freeman who bring him around.Lopez shows up at Redford's door to escape an abusive boyfriend who shows up eventually, with the Grand Daughter. While the film as a whole is not great, it is worth watching. I saw this one cut for television with commercials, so I have a feeling the theater version has more adult material than I have seen. The framework here is okay after the cuts.
tieman64 Directed by Lasse Hallstrom, "An Unfinished Life" stars Robert Redford as Einar Gilkyson, a Wyoming rancher. Einar's drunkenness led to his buddy, Mitch Bradley (Morgan Freeman), being mauled by a giant bear. Einar refuses to forgive himself. Mitch forgives both Einar and the bear.Issues of "mercy" and "forgiveness" extend throughout Hallstrom's film. Einar's daughter-in-law, Jean Gilkyson (Jennifer Lopez), is held in contempt by Einar; he blames her for his son's death. But when Einar forgives Jean's daughter (Becca Gardner) for her involvement in an accident, it spurs him to forgive Jean herself. "I think the dead forgive us our sins," Mitch says, his gentle wisdom inspiring Hallstrom's cast to let go of their hate.Despite a creaky performance by Lopez, "An Unfinished Life" features gorgeous location photography, palpable atmosphere and likable performances by Freeman and Redford, who play a couple of cantankerous old men. Young Becca Gardener steals the show.7.9/10 - See "The Yellow Handkerchief", "Flesh and Bone" (1993) and "Everything Must Go".
alohahome I like movies that are willing to look into the soul and deal with the process of reconciliation and redemption of bitter and broken people and families. This beautifully filmed movie, shot in the lush Wyoming countryside (actually Canada), starts slow, than sneaks up on you with more meaning than you could possibly have anticipated. Old wounds die hard and unresolved guilt and blame takes its toll. This motion picture was released under the radar due to Miramax being bought by Disney. It was shelved for two years, then given a limited release, It's largely undiscovered but it does have something important to say. Not a perfect movie since there is no such thing, but it does push some deep buttons and it's worth owning a copy. Another keeper. Morgan Freeman plays a ranch hand who is bedridden due to a bear mauling and has his own demons to fight.
mindcat I checked this DVD out in the public library and I am so glad I neither rented or worse bought this star studded BORE.The story line is weak from the get go and the entire movie seems centered around a rouge bear. Why on earth did they not just kill the thing from the get go was the primary mystery of the entire sad and boring excuse for a script.I think this flick shows again just highly paid and famous cast does not a decent movie. I've seen more pointed and moving flicks made by relative unknown casts and low budgets.Sorry, I can't recommend this except to put you to sleep and see what hot pants the primary female character has. I mean here she is abused and running and has to get in the pants of the local sheriff because, as her daughter muttered, " we all need love,"
