Karry Best movie of this year hands down!
Wordiezett So much average
Kaydan Christian A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.
Kaelan Mccaffrey Like the great film, it's made with a great deal of visible affection both in front of and behind the camera.
Finfrosk86 What the hell is happening with this movie?!Alright, time travel! I love it. Super poor cg-effects? not so much.Let me break it down for ya real quick! A Sound of Thunder has kind of a decent story, it's almost original, not a too shabby take on time travel. Mixed with some Total Recall, and a little sprinkle of Jurassic Park. Ish.Here is the movies main problem. Horrible special effects. Now, I don't use words like horrible when describing special effect too often. I got thick skin when it comes to CG. But here? Oh my. There's some painful green screen here. The movie is set in the future, so when they are walking in the streets, backgrounds and cars are CG. And not in a good way. It's like TV-movie quality. Also some of the acting is pretty bad. But again the real problem is the CG, and special effects in general, damn. They are badly directed and badly made. It looks really low budget, but according to IMDb it's in the 50 mill range, so they really should be better.I think the director is just too old, and inexperienced with CG, thats my theory. But aside from the very bad CG effects, this is not that bad a movie. Got some good ideas.
solvielisabetarson This movie is what Olympus was to the ancient Greeks as it is to us. The actors deliver stunning performances, the cinematography is revolutionary, the CGI is completely bonkers m8. The story follows a brave man, who sets out into the past to discover greatness. Out of the blue, he strays off the path and causes a chain of events that will alter the face of humanity in disastrous ways. Probably the best part of this movie is the stellar performance delivered by Ben Kingsley. Good ol' Ben hasn't been this good since his amazing acting work done in Schindler's List (also one of the most thought provoking films of our time), but in A Sound of Thunder he completely destroys the scene. Another thing of the movie, the CGI done in this masterpiece is exactly that, a masterpiece. What man has longed for since the invention of fire, the longing of greatness, for man to be as a God. That has been done with this film's CGI work. The backgrounds are intense, you get sucked into it as if you're there, inside the vast world of this film. Computers are brought to life through detailed computer animation, which rivals even the practical effects of Stanley Kubrick.I have seen films with good plot, but this one takes the case. Oh boy! Oh golly! This film kept me at the edge of my seat the whole time. The plot is intense and realistic. The characters are tested and true intentions are brought out into the light. Relationships are tested and broken, strained and refined. Who is a true friend and who is a distasteful enemy? You decide."That'll do, Donkey. That'll do." - Shrek, 2001.
Patrick Broderick This is based on one of Ray Bradbury's wonderful short stories and doesn't measure up to the source material. But neither does the classic giant monster movie, "The Beast From Twenty Thousand Fathoms", compare to "The Fog Horn". The Harryhausen-driven SFX movie didn't have any of the melancholy poetry of the original short story. And this movie doesn't either. Not when you compare it to the master's original. But the story, with some corny, stereotypical moments, is a decent SF thriller. The effects are awesome and the overall pacing of the story is good.If you're looking for a good way to waste a couple of hours, and not expecting something like Kubrick's "2001: A Space Odyssey" or Scott's "Blade Runner", this might be worth a look. And do yourself a favor afterwords, read the original story (and "The Fog Horn"). Beautifully crafted short stories. As to Ben Kingsley? Maybe, like Max Von Sydow in "Flash Gordon" or "Strange Brew" or Maximilian Schell in "The Black Hole", he just wanted to have some fun making a movie.
Korbin Schwertl There's a slight difference between a terrible film and a bad film. As surreal as it sounds, I really enjoy watching this film a lot. Just to get things right, this film is crap, but it really has some really great ideas. For example the Baboonosaurus. Great idea, but very questionable. I don't think evolution works in such weird ways, but I take it for the cool idea it is. The design of the so called Ichtyo Sapiens (for the short moment its in) is fun to watch. Also I enjoyed the jungle setting.Just forget about the acting, its that crappy. It's a bad film over and over, it's an enjoyable film.As much as I would like to say, get it and check it out on your own, but this film ... Well it's a Si-Fi film, a bad one with many very enjoyable parts. Not everyone will like it. If you enjoyed movies like EVOLUTION, you will enjoy A SOUND OF THUNDER.
