CrawlerChunky In truth, there is barely enough story here to make a film.
Fairaher The film makes a home in your brain and the only cure is to see it again.
InformationRap This is one of the few movies I've ever seen where the whole audience broke into spontaneous, loud applause a third of the way in.
Arianna Moses Let me be very fair here, this is not the best movie in my opinion. But, this movie is fun, it has purpose and is very enjoyable to watch.
barbara_whitfield I am a psych researcher and spent six years at the University of Connecticut Medical School studying the after effects of the Near-Death Experience. I've written 5 plus books about the near- death experience. These scenes with Woopi were so well done. Kate Hudson's acting was the best. All the emotion and spiritual aspects in this film are real to people who have died and come back to talk about it, It's not far fetched to any NDEr (near-death experiencer.) The writers did their homework. That last scene is not an usual one except for Woopi playing the role. I thought it was incredibly well done -- and I've had a near-death experience -- so it's also very real to me.
Stumbleine MT As a cancer survivor, I must say that this is one of the worst films that I have watched! The lead character goes through chemo like it's a minor cold, has a full head of hair throughout the whole film, and is incredibly active despite that fact that she is supposed to be dying of colon cancer. The lack of information regarding basic oncology is an insult to those who have had to go through various rounds of cancer treatments. It also shows how the research for the film was either totally inadequate or non existent. And just when they couldn't do any worse... she falls in love/lust with her doctor. And that has broken how many ethic codes? Pah! Cancer is no fairytale, so films that sugar coat it (like this one) really annoy me and belittle the long and painful journeys that cancer patients have fought for years.
David Holt (rawiri42) This ought to be a really sad movie but Kate Hudson's character Marley is one of those people who refuse to be miserable and that makes all the difference. I note, reading from Kate's biography on IMDb, that she is very like Marley and lights up a room when she enters. But then what else would you expect from Goldie's little girl? The story is a well-worn one of a beautiful young woman who discovers she is dying from terminal cancer and I almost wonder if it would be possible to include any spoilers in a review since everything is pretty predictable. Nevertheless, this is definitely one of those feel-good movies that you feel glad you watched when it comes to its inevitable end. Gael Garcia Bernal was new to me but I felt that he played his part very well as an immigrant Mexican doctor in the USA. His attempts to tell American jokes was particularly delightful and well acted. I would like to see more of him (although a little dental work might help!).If there is one small thing about this movie that really annoyed me, it was the post love scene between Marley and one of her boyfriends fairly early in the picture. OK, Kate Hudson is a nice girl who obviously doesn't want to do naked shots and that's fine. But, right after making passionate love with a guy, would she really still be wearing a bra? That was an insult to the viewers' intelligence! Now I'm not advocating that actresses should abrogate their principals and bare all just because the plot calls for it (although, these days, it's pretty "normal" and doesn't bother me), but you have to agree, that shot just didn't look right! If Kate wanted to preserve her modesty, then it would have been better for her to have simply remained under the sheet. This would seem to me nothing more than bad directing which is a pity because everything else was very good.If I learned anything from this movie, it was for any post-death function that my family and friends may see fit to stage. I only want half a funeral - the FUN part! The (f)eral part they can forget!
zif ofoz if you want an hour and thirty minutes plus movie of overly emotional sentimental teary eyed one whole box of tissues movie - this is it! a mawkish story told in just the worst acting from start to finish.there is only one good thing i can say about this movie - it's photographed beautifully with colorful sets, grand effects, and nice music. but that is it! certainly the director didn't expect anyone to believe the plight of the leading role. she never looks ill or dissipated from the 'radical medical treatment' she received.no, no, no! what a waste of time. this melodrama would have been more suited to some past decade when people expected this role playing called 'entertainment'.ugh!
