Brainsbell The story-telling is good with flashbacks. The film is both funny and heartbreaking. You smile in a scene and get a soulcrushing revelation in the next.
Brendon Jones It’s fine. It's literally the definition of a fine movie. You’ve seen it before, you know every beat and outcome before the characters even do. Only question is how much escapism you’re looking for.
Aiden Melton The storyline feels a little thin and moth-eaten in parts but this sequel is plenty of fun.
Ortiz Excellent and certainly provocative... If nothing else, the film is a real conversation starter.
lois-lane33 I remember seeing the first two Steven Seagal films and being impressed with them-a fresh face with a fresh spin on martial arts movies-and it was being done by someone who was not an Asian person. Probably nobody since Bruce Lee has anyone contributed more to the genre of martial arts movies. I had mixed feelings about Bruce Lee's decision to teach previously secret fighting techniques to 'anyone who came along.' It has long been recognized that martial arts is a great way to stay physically fit and mentally sharp. That being said I've never met any not Asian types involved with martial arts who didn't have large ego's. Usually the better the person is at something the less ego is involved. Steven Seagal appears to be a smart guy and his movies show the right choices in bad situations-so I respect his films. They can often be a lot of fun-and if what they say about Mr. Seagal is correct-that he is a 7th dan Aikido master: that would make him among a very small group of people indeed. Most martial arts instructors who hold black belts are 1st dan or maybe 2nd dan-because to rise above the level of a black belt is the mental and physical equivalent of building a house with just a spoon and a pile of dirt. It's that hard. This film has good action sequences-the language is maybe a bit harsh at times but thats 'de-rigueur' for action films these days. Not a movie for wimps. I also thought it could have been more. Maybe a bit too basic. Being right isn't necessarily always about being able to punch a hole through a cement wall. I think Thailand's Tony Jaa of Muay Thai fame would be a good foe or match up for Steven Seagal in an action flick. I think the later Steven Seagal films are not as good as his earlier films; with a few exceptions.
Leofwine_draca The big man's back in business in yet another cookie-cutter action vehicle. This time around, the lacklustre plot sees Seagal jailed for a crime he didn't commit (or did he?). Years later, he's out on the streets and soon stumbles into an all-out drugs war between two rival mafia gangs: one Russian, one Chinese. The ensuing mayhem will come as no surprise to anybody who's seen a Seagal film, as he kicks, beats, breaks and shoots his way through various bad guys without ever getting a scratch himself. From the outset, A DANGEROUS MAN stands out as one of the star's more violent outings. The portly fighter has a real sadistic streak in this one: not just content to beat up his enemies, he mutilates them as well as breaking various bones.Quickly dispensing with an embarrassing sex scene early on, this hits its stride in good time and proves to be never less than entertaining: the plot is derivative but the story movies at speed and the action sequences are plentiful and well handled. Sure, it will never win any awards, but at least it's never boring. Fans should find this one of Seagal's better films of recent years.
Paul Andrews A Dangerous Man starts as ex Special Forces war hero Shane Daniels (Steven Seagal) chases off a man attacking his wife Holly (Aidan Dee) who is later found brutally murdered. Shane is convicted of the man's murder & spends six years in an Arizona state prison before being cleared of all charges & released due to new DNA evidence, his first night as a free man & Shane heads straight to a shop to buy some Bourbon but is confronted by muggers whom Shane beats up, leave for dead & steal their car. While drinking his Bourbon by himself Shane witnesses a local cop being shot dead by Chinese gangsters, Shane gets involved & after killing one of the Chinese discovers a bag full of money & a drugged woman named Tia (Marliana Mah) in the back of their car. Shane decides to take both & leaves the scene with Russian car thief Sergey (Jesse Hutch) who also witnessed the killing, Shane agrees to help the Chinese girl Tia who is wanted by Chinese gangsters & the local corrupt police who also want their money back...Written & directed by Keoni Waxman this is the second Steven Seagal film I have seen in the past couple of days after The Keeper (2009) which was also written & directed by Waxman, for some reason quite a few Seagal films are playing on telly over here now & next up for me watch is Driven to Kill (2009) but that's for another time. Anyway, I quite liked The Keeper, it wasn't brilliant but as far as action thrillers go it wasn't half bad & I suppose I wanted too much to expect two straight to video Seagal films to be of decent quality as A Dangerous Man is definitely a notch below The Keeper but having said that still better than some of Seagal's other straight to video crap he has churned out over the past decade. The script has a reasonable story but doesn't do much with it, for instance it's never really explained why Seagal doesn't step in sooner to save the cops life or even why he bothers to get involved at all, the story behind Tia's uncle is unclear as it's originally said she wants help to smuggle him into the US but by the time the film ends he is in the US but who got him there? If it was the bad guy's why not just take him hostage as soon as they reached the US? Why all the shoot-outs & runaround? It never really gels or makes perfect sense, your never really fully behind the character's either with the relationship between Daniels & Tia feeling very awkward with virtually no chemistry there at all although the obvious age difference along with Seagal's mumbling & obvious lack of acting ability doesn't help matters. The action could have been better too, there are lots of bland shoot-outs, in fact the last forty minutes of the film are just two long shoot-outs. The Chinese guy's attack the Russians & then soon after the Russians attack the Chinese as lots of bullets are fired & lots of people are shot but it's pretty dull stuff with no real energy. Seagal's fight scenes are a mixed bag, I am sure he's using a double here as a lot of the fights are filmed in a way not to show Seagal's face like from the neck down or behind Seagal's character or an object like a shelf obscuring his face. The beginning of the film also features Seagal really hurt two muggers in a way you wouldn't expect from a hero, he mutilates ones face with the barrel of a gun & shoots the other (despite it being his first day out of prison) before stealing their car & blowing it up. There are some really sexy Asian girls featured in this which is worth a mention. Also worth a mention are Waxman's annoying style, you know the sort of things like fast editing, slow motion, silly colours, odd sound effects & misplaced music. With a supposed budget of about $6,500,000 this was filmed in Canada & has reasonable production values, certainly as good as can be expected for this type of film. The acting is alright, obviously Seagal is poor as usual & just mumbles his way through his role & the lack of any chemistry between himself & Marlaina Mah hurts the film.A Dangerous Man isn't that great, it has a decent story that somehow ends up being rather muddled & even though there's plenty of shoot-outs the action is formulaic & forgettable. Not as bad as some of Seagal's recent output but hardly amongst his best.
Samiam3 I suppose it would be pointless for me to tell you not to see A Dangerous Man, because I doubt anyone is gonna want to. That said for every 1000 movie goers in the world, I'm sure there are one or two who are looking into this, and to those people I say, spend your money elsewhere. It not like any of the Seagal movies gave us anything in the way of a character, but in A Dangerous Man, he plays the ultimate nobody; an ex-soldier who has just gotten out of the joint only to find himself mixed up in some Chinese mob mischief operating out of a Pacific coastal town. Worst of all, Steven Seagal has gotten so big that he can't even kick butt convincingly, I doubt if he can even lift his leg halfway to a kicking height. As a result, the fights here are so sissy and lame. I would be more afraid of fighting a squirrel than taking on this Seagal.A Dangerous Man, is just plain boring. I have little hope that Steven Seagal will be able to do any better in the future. Although it would be nice if he could prove me wrong.
