Witchblade

  • Drama, Mystery, Sci-Fi & Fantasy,
  • Witchblade is an American television series that aired on TNT from 2001 to 2002. The series is based on the Witchblade comic book series, and followed a pilot film which debuted in August 2000. Some of the episodes were written by Ralph Hemecker, Marc Silvestri and J.D. Zeik. Yancy Butler starred as Sara Pezzini, Anthony Cistaro as Kenneth Irons, David Chokachi as Jake McCartey, Eric Etebari as Ian Nottingham, Will Yun Lee as Danny Woo, Conrad Dunn as Tommy Gallo, Kenneth Welsh as Joe Siri, and John Hensley as Gabriel Bowman, among others. Although critically acclaimed and popular with audiences, the show was canceled in September 2002; there was speculation that the cancellation was connected to Butler's entering rehab for alcoholism. The series ran for two seasons on TNT, for a total of 24 episodes. The first episode aired June 12, 2001; the last episode aired August 26, 2002. In spite of its cancellation, Witchblade was ranked seventh in the Top 10 Basic Cable Dramas for 2002. According to Top Cow editor Matt Hawkins the Witchblade TV series was cancelled because the lead actress Yancy Butler was an alcoholic and went into rehab – it was and remains the highest rated TV series to be cancelled.

  • Drama, Action & Adventure, Sci-Fi & Fantasy,
  • Wizards vs Aliens is a science fantasy television series aimed at children. It is produced by BBC Wales and FremantleMedia Enterprises at the newly opened BBC Roath Lock Studios in Cardiff for CBBC and created by Russell T Davies and Phil Ford. The series focuses on 16-year-old wizard Tom Clarke and his scientist best friend Benjamin "Benny" Sherwood as they battle the forces of the alien Nekross, who have invaded Earth with the intent of consuming anything and anyone connected to magic. 26 episodes of the drama, spread over two years and two series, have been commissioned, although co-creator Russell T Davies says that it could continue beyond that, and could 'easily run for ten years'. The first series, consisting of twelve 28-minute episodes, premiered in 2012. In production terms, Wizards vs Aliens is, in effect, the replacement for The Sarah Jane Adventures, also created by Davies, which was ended due to the death of its lead actor Elisabeth Sladen. Other writers working on the show include Gareth Roberts, Joseph Lidster and Clayton Hickman. Originally announced as Aliens vs Wizards, the title was changed to "Wizards vs Aliens" on legal advice.

Way Out
  • Way Out (1961)
  • Drama, Sci-Fi & Fantasy,
  • Way Out was a 1961 fantasy and science fiction television anthology series hosted by writer Roald Dahl. The macabre 25-minute shows were introduced by Dahl's dry delivery of a brief introductory monologue, sometimes explaining a method of murdering a spouse without getting caught. The taped series began because CBS suddenly needed a replacement for a Jackie Gleason talk show that network executives were about to cancel, and producer David Susskind contacted Dahl to help mount a show quickly. The series was paired by the network with the similar The Twilight Zone for Friday evening broadcasts, running from March through July 1961 at 9:30 p.m. Eastern time, under the primary sponsorship of Liggett & Myers. Writers included Philip H. Reisman, Jr. and Sumner Locke Elliott. The premiere episode, "William and Mary", adapted from a Roald Dahl short story, told of a wife getting revenge on her husband. In "Dissolve to Black", an actress cast as a murder victim at a television studio goes through a rehearsal, but the drama merges with reality as she finds herself trapped on the show's near-deserted set. Other dramas offered startling imagery: a snake slithering up a carpeted staircase inside a suburban home, a disembodied brain in a jar, a headless woman strapped to an electric chair, with a light bulb in place of her head and half of a man's face erased.
