misstar-05552 Three seasons and I WANT MORE! I usually stop by.the second season, but not.this time. I LOVE this series. It's true to life and heart stopping and nail biting. A lot of any type of shows out now even comedies are below par. This show deserves Oscar,, Grammy, Peoples Choice and more. KEEP the series coming. It's highly entertaining, and you have not disappointed my over 1000 watch party goers yet. Thank you for this excellent writing, casting, producing and directing
itserich This is an exciting series.Great writing, story and acting.I appreciate the music. This show is about escape from slavery. Today's entertainment industry - especially music and sports - provide an opportunity for some people to escape their own circumstances.
stmo-94859 I've read many reviews by others pointing out the attire of the slaves and the music score not being authentic to the times. I saw ROOTS when it first aired in the 70's. While there was controversy then , there will be controversy with the story-line and attire and musical performances now in the 2000's. This story could be more factual at best if there had been more torture scenes but what good would that idealism have done to the audience. I have enjoyed the way this story-line has been presented. The words in the songs told a bit more than another scene could have done in the story-line. I and my 2 sons thoroughly enjoy UNDERGROUND.
tdraperhappydog Concerning "Underground" A continuing series about slaves in 19th Century Georgia contemplating escape from inhumane conditions,I would give this show an overall rating of 7/10. The actors do very well, even though most of them are "unknowns". The main Characters are the Plantation Owner, his pregnant wife and children, the Overseer, the Black Slave Assistant to the Overseer, and a Do-good childless couple from the North, (now living in the South) who decide to be become part of the Underground Railroad. The Plantation Owner is having a long time affair with a light color female slave who controls him completely. She works in the "Big House" and gets from the owner whatever she wants. Her daughter, who is also the daughter of the owner, and her grandson also work there. Her grown son, also a son of the Owner, works in the fields.Meanwhile, the Overseer has a young son who is quickly learning to maim, injure, kill, and ruthlessly harm every living creature, including humans, he comes across, thanks to his father. There is no mother in this home. His father teaches him to shoot a "wolf" when he is about 8 years old because his father blames it for killing chickens, even though he saw human foot prints on the scene.Underground is very compelling and the characters are richly drawn. The action is fast moving and draws you in even if you try to resist. But, there are some problems with this show. For one thing, the use of contemporary music is distracting and doesn't go well with a period piece. I think using period music or even the blues would be a better choice, Even trying to tie in a related contemporary piece would make sense, but so far I don't even see that connection. Another problem is the costuming. These characters are slaves, right? So how come some of them have very fine gowns and others are wearing burlap sacks? This doesn't sit well with me. If the costume designer would study period photos she would see that slave were never that well dressed. It just isn't realistic.Another problem is the accents. Some actors have them and others don't. Let's get together on this. Do the characters live in the South? Do they live in the North? No explanation is given for why some characters don't have a Southern drawl but others do.If these quirks could be worked out, I think Underground could go from good to GREAT. It's still a show worth watching, but some mistakes are distracting from the story line. That's all I'm sayn' for now.Thank you,Teri
