Synopsis

Thanks to a Japanese scientist's invention of synthetic, blood vampires have progressed from legendary monsters to fellow citizens overnight. And while humans have been safely removed from the menu, many remain apprehensive about these creatures "coming out of the coffin." Religious leaders, government officials, and vampire fundamentalists around the world have chosen their sides, but in the small Louisiana town of Bon Temps, the jury is still out.

Cleveronix A different way of telling a story
Mandeep Tyson The acting in this movie is really good.
Deanna There are moments in this movie where the great movie it could've been peek out... They're fleeting, here, but they're worth savoring, and they happen often enough to make it worth your while.
alexiscardarella Okay, so initially, during the few episodes, I was like, "What the hell, Alan Ball.." I had really high expectations because of Six Feet Under and American Beauty. And then, to my surprise, it quickly grew into an extremely well written and well-acted series. I found myself getting engrossed in this supernatural yet mundane world. The characters, the story-lines, the performances: all top tier. I mean, Denis O'Hare, oh my God.. Evan Rachel Wood.. And they were only guest stars. ..Unfortunately, the series takes a turn in the 5th season as the series becomes, in my opinion, a little silly and less substantive, and by the 6th season (after Alan Ball stepped down as showrunner) it feels like a whole different series. I wish I could forget the last season. I was so disappointed that I'm still repressing it. That being said, this series remains one of my favorite series. I love the characters and cherish the actors' performances as them. I love the world Charlaine Harris created and how Alan Ball adapted it. And I will always appreciate how creative HBO let them get, letting it become one of the most distinguished, unique series of its genre. It's fun. It's irreverent. It's surprising and smart. It's got an array of LGBT characters and story-lines. Go watch it.
KineticSeoul I was hooked because of the first season of this show, the southern grit and nastiness was entertaining and enthralling to watch. Even the second season was at least amusing to watch, the dumb and pretentious aspect of it worked at least when it came to the amusement factor. Even the Light of Day Institute arch was watchable. Then they introduced the fairies and fairyland and it became really lame and silly. Even the characters started off fairly interesting and amusing started to get way too idiotic and dis- likable. This is a vampire drama, but they all started to get way too darn pretentious and whinny the whole time. While not being able to make up their minds and leading people on and on until even the characters seem to get tired of it. I wasn't all that fond of Sookie the main lead from the beginning but she was alright. Then I just wanted someone on the show to punch her in the face. On the last season I think the writers wanted to wrap things up in a way where she somewhat atones for her hypocritical, pretentious and whinny ways during the whole show. Despite the nudity in this, it's really a fantasy show for women and teens, with good looking vampire males constantly trying to win her affection, regardless of how she acts towards them. Even fans of the show was so over her after few seasons in and they probably really wanted to give this character a chance. I am being a bit more harsh on Sookie despite there being a lot of annoying characters in this show because she is the main main lead after all. And although she is the central character her presence was almost unnecessary in a lot of ways. The final season at least try to get to the roots of what made the first season really good. But just didn't have the momentum to make it end with a bang. I thought it was a alright wrap up at best but nothing really noteworthy. Overall, this is a show I wouldn't really recommend because it basically has one really good season and the rest being mediocre or just plain awful to sit through. It's not a terrible show but there is shows that are way more worthwhile out there.6/10
kamel121 I've been a fan since the second I watched this show. It's an outstanding series full of dry humour, unique yet traditional drama and a whole bunch of certainly not twilight theme. I love the story. Not a huge fan of the protagonist but hey, every other character makes up for it. Here you have a show that exceeds every aspect of a life with vampires. The lead idea of the show is vampire but they bring in werewolves, shape shifters and many others including fairies which no other show I have seen has brought to television . I've seen fans say it has fallen through but I don't believe it has . It's gotten more unique. I love that vampires are known, the synthetic blood, the tainted vamps, the religious red neck town, and Fangtasia . Beautiful . Every time I finish an episode I'm so excited I have to watch the rest. This show is pure genius thrown in with the occasional bad acting but once again, so many things make up for it. You got the blonde bombshell protagonist with multiple love problems, the hot womanizer who's an idiot, the gay black guy, the emotional vampire, the mysterious vampire, the sweet puppy eyed boy (literally), the dumb founded sheriffs, the damaged girl with major family problems, the sarcastic mono tone vampire and so much more! I'm so upset it's over but I'm happy they still did it and kept it going . This show has never failed to please me and it never will as I rematch it in the future !
gilligan1965 September 7, 2015 UPDATE - I just changed my rating of this from eight to 10...this series has become amazingly good! At first, I thought that this was going to be about vampires, alone. Now, I've found that this series includes a Dionysian Maenad; witches; fairies; werewolves; shape-shifters; etc...and, all kinds of great twists and turns in the storyline. EXCELLENT! :)PREVIOUS REVIEW -I just finished watching season one of this series and I'm finding it as entertaining as it is unique. The storyline is vastly different than any other vampire 'anything' that I've seen or read before; the details mentioned and the items and props herein are unlike any I've heard of before; the characters are all well-developed and portrayed by great actors; the effects are top-shelf; and, the location is perfect for such a story given its history and folklore. The only thing I really find disturbing about this series is the willingness of certain 'human' characters having sexual encounters with vampires!?!? I find that particularly nauseating as it's 'animated' necrophilia due to vampires being dead. Who knows what kind of sicknesses they're carrying, of which some or many may not even be known to doctors, and, therefor, incurable!?!? Some or all of these vampires could be bigger germ farms than that monkey from the movie "Outbreak."In spite of this, "True Blood" is a solid series that brings new and interesting elements into the vampire genre.
