Aaron1375 When one is a kid with a sister, one sometimes is forced to watch shows they would rather not watch. This is the one for me. I hated this show as a kid as it bored me to no end. I did not like the Duke boys, Boss Hog, or any of that crap. Though Daisy Dukes was a cutie in those shorts, so that is about the only thing to watch in this show about two guys evading the law whenever they can. The town is run by a corrupt leader and the Duke boys do what they can to undermine him at every turn. This show did last longer than most hour long shows of the time. Usually, a show of this type would not last very long usually axed after the second or third season and just falling short of 100 episodes. This one made it to 145 so despite my dislike of the show it most have had its followers. I just was not one of them, this show just was not to my tastes, the chases proved to be boring compared to ones from a James Bond flick, the car not cool at all when compared to Smokey's car from "Smokey and the Bandit" or "Knight Rider" and the humor not my kind of humor. Of course, to this day I have an extreme dislike for super southern type things, growing up here in the south one can only take the southern slang so much, I had no urge to see redneck talking folks on television too. The show also had more cast changes during its run than the normal show. They replaced the Duke boys and I think even Daisy at one point. I just do not see replacing what made the show famous and still surviving, though I think the original Duke boys did come back. However, you really do have to admire those shorts.
Sandy This show was a fantastic form of escapism in the Monday night lineup here in Oztrayliah for a few years back in the 1980s. It has to say something about the show that both my husband and I were fans the first time around, and now our three children love it as much as we do, being the first to pull the DVDs out to watch different episodes. There is not another family oriented show like it on TV these days as most either run the family unit down or think they need profanity and lurid behaviour to capture an audience. The Dukes of Hazzard was fantastic for its time and deserves another run on our TV screens as it will capture more fans each time it is aired!
c-lauzon_holdnick Hey, i must say i have never seen such a great t.v.series as the dukes. I must agree they are very sexy guys, those duke cousins. It's a shame that they aren't as young as they were then. I would go crazy over Bo duke (john Schneider). But then Luke duke (tom) isn't that bad looking either. :) I hope i find someone weather it's now or later thats like Bo. It would be so nice to meet them in person, and give them a big hug. I give dukes of hazzard 300% the best thats ever been. I also just realized that it's sad when i read about Jessie and boss hog's death. But then i guess no one lives forever and i'm sorry to hear about the bad news to everyone. The fans and the crew that worked with them. But anyways i'm just happy i got to say what i really wanted to say about the dukes and hopefully, wishing that those man out there do check these out once in a while to read it. Take care. From Chantal Lauzon Winnipeg, MB Canada
FloatingOpera7 The Dukes of Hazzard (Based on The Film Moon Runners, 1974, Series From 1979-1985) Starring Tom Wopat, Jon Schneider, Denver Pyle, Catherine Bach, Sorrel Bookee, James Best, Sonny Shroyer, Ben Jones, Rick Hurst, Peggy rea, Nedra Volz, Byron Cherry, Christpher Meyer. The Dukes of Hazzard was based on the 1974 film Moon Runners, much like MASH was based on an earlier 70's film. This show ran from 1979 to 1985. It had a huge fan base and there was a remake (though a bad one) starring Jessica Simpson as Daisy Duke. The short shorts Catherine Bach wore were later trendy shorts named after Daisy Duke. The cars, the flips the cars would make, the car chases, the glorified "redneck" antics of the main characters was the attraction. Further, the cast was attractive, if far too countrified. The scheming Boss Nass (Sorell Brooke) was a character you loved to hate. The opening song is a very nice one "Just some good old boys who get in trouble with the law". I was a little kid when this show was on TV, and I'm very sure they were re-runs. I was a child of the 80's. When this show came on, it must have been 7pm or 8pm and I recall that it was far too adult for me to enjoy or even understand. I never saw past the opening song. But now they show re-runs on cable TV and I'm older and enjoy the show. It's fun and entertaining. Shows like these are nostalgic. They make you recall a time when TV shows were not full of graphic sex, vulgarity or mindless, trite plots. This is a fine show overall.
