WasAnnon Slow pace in the most part of the movie.

ChanFamous I wanted to like it more than I actually did... But much of the humor totally escaped me and I walked out only mildly impressed.
Candida It is neither dumb nor smart enough to be fun, and spends way too much time with its boring human characters.
mosquito12 i've seen this series and i must say that it is absolutely brilliant. the music is great, the characters are hilarious and jack black is just the funniest man alive. if you own or have heard any of tenacious d's album you should definitely watch the show; it will really make you have a greater appreciation for the D, as many of the songs on that album were featured, in early versions without bass or drums, on this show. so basically if you havent seen this show try to find someone who has a copy of it on tape (try ebay) and if you dont have the album then buy it. if you havent experienced the D then you simply have not lived!
shageydope Tenacious D is the most amazing show I have ever seen in my life. It mixes comedy and music together so well. The open mic performances are creative and written well. Kyle Gass is a classically trained musician and Jack Black can throw down some insane lyrics. Folk-Metal is what I would classify the music as. Songs like "Jesus Ranch" and "Kyle Took a Bullet for Me" are two examples of their talent as both musicians and comedians. Too bad HBO canceled the series. If you havent, go buy the CD.
tinolucent HBO buried this show Sunday nights at midnight, but Tenacious D is one of the most original and funny shows to come around in recent years. Jack Black and Kyle Gass play two talented but wildly misdirected singer/songwriters. The plotlines are impossibly thin, and the type of humor is thankfully not for everyone -- it can be compared to The Larry Sanders Show and Mr. Show. Black and Gass (playing hyper versions of themselves) really hit their strides comedically and musically. This show didn't last long, but rumors of a feature length film persist.
prohibited-name-1287 Yet another gem in the HBO crown, the Tenacious D series on HBO is worth a look. It is an outstanding comedy series about a struggling band whose sole purpose is perform at an open mike night at a local bar. There are 3 episodes, each consisting of two 10-15 minute segments. They perform their own songs and the stories in each segment are in fact written around the songs. Thus, Tenacious D is a real band and in this case, the band came before the show. The D is Jack Black and Kyle Gass. Both are worth their musical weight in gold: Jack has a voice with the depth of Eddie Vedder and the range of Roy Orbison; Kyle is a world-class guitarist and his vocals are well timed and solid. The way they mix such excellent talent into the tubby frame of a satin-worshipping hard-rock band that plays for an irreverent open mike audience, shows well thought out and entertaining absurdity. Their music sounds like Simon and Garfunkel, while their verse is silly and riddled with overt sexual over-tones and embellished with a rock-scat style that's butter to the ears. There are also numerous intentional contradictions in the stories and subtleties within the acting all throughout the show that make each piece fun to watch again and again. They are the right mix of talent and ridiculousness and it works very well. The D's resume is looking better all the time, as they have opened for names like Beck and Tool, and have made several TV appearances including SNL, Conan O'Brien, and Comedy Central. They have a CD coming out summer '01.
