Synopsis

Each day the President is faced with dozens of life and death decisions, and to prioritize the biggest international crises facing the country, one top CIA analyst - Charleston Tucker - assembles the President's Daily Briefing. This list of the most vital security issues facing the nation brings with it moral and political judgment calls for Charleston and her trusted group of brilliant analysts at the agency. Aside from the political minefields she has to walk, Charlie has a close personal relationship with the President because she was once engaged to her son before a tragic terrorist attack took his life. Charlie survived that attack and is now determined to bring the perpetrators to justice. Navigating a complex personal life and a pressure-cooker profession is, of course, a challenge, and Charlie sometimes engages in boundary-pushing behavior to avoid facing her grief. But when the clock strikes 2 a.m., she is all about her job - protecting her nation, serving her president and still trying to get to the bottom of her fiancé's murder that will reveal itself as a shocking mystery.

Reviews

VeteranLight I don't have all the words right now but this film is a work of art.
TaryBiggBall It was OK. I don't see why everyone loves it so much. It wasn't very smart or deep or well-directed.
Portia Hilton Blistering performances.
Sarita Rafferty There are moments that feel comical, some horrific, and some downright inspiring but the tonal shifts hardly matter as the end results come to a film that's perfect for this time.
jthedron I'm not sure why all the negative press over this show. It's more interesting than Madame Secretary and not as silly as The Blacklist. Perhaps I'm over all the Heigl negative press whereas other reviewers maybe not so much. There's a lot going on here and I love the altering behavior between Woodard and Heigl. Are they friends? Does the President trust Charlie or suspect her? Additionally Heigl's character, Charlie, seems damaged, that's why Charlie acts the way she does. Has she been harmed by the loss of her fiancé', the President's son, or too much seen in the field as a CIA operative? Either way, there's something not quite right with Charlie, but what is right is her ability to read what might happen or what's about to happen. I like this show, its characters and I'll keep watching.
schmandel Not very good at all.I've watched the entire season waiting for just about anything interesting or entertaining. Having never seen "Grey's Anatomy" as a point of reference I must say that Heigl swings between overacting and wooden model poses with ease. The writing is not very good at all and has the same listless mechanical feel conveyed by Heigl's acting. The soap opera aspects of the script are just awkward and tedious. These elements are distracting and enhance the sense that the show has no idea what it should be.I don't think there's anything to be salvaged here. One season should be enough for anyone.
old cold warrior Today is 5 Jan 2015. Halfway through the show I have to stop watching. The days of crossing borders with a bottle of booze and a small cash bribe are over. This show could just as easily be produced on radio. It's all talk and very little action. People talk in hotel rooms and cars in front of slides to indicate some exotic setting in the background. The dialog shoots by at a blistering pace, full of apparently significant and detailed information in very official sounding language.I really wanted to like this show. I like Heigl and have no interest in the hate a number of people have toward her. But the writing is insulting and the action is unbelievable. The show lacks credibility.
pussigato-1 It is intriguing and pulled me in from the first episode. The idea of bringing in a field agent to be Presidents' briefer is not likely though. Granted Charleston was going to be her daughter-in-law but the proverbial "stepped on" toes would make her life and career hell. Reality check It is well written using known tactics and information. The release of the CIA torture report appears to validate the premise of the show. I've always like Katherine Heigel. She was my favorite character in Grey's Anatomy. I glad she's finally back. Alfie Woodward is a superb actor and I absolutely love her. Two strong women in lead roles? Wow-what a concept
