Synopsis

Notorious Los Angeles defense attorney Sebastian Stark becomes disillusioned with his career after his successful defense of a wife-abuser results in the wife's death. After more than a month trying to come to grips with his situation, he is invited by the Los Angeles district attorney to become a public prosecutor so he can apply his unorthodox-but-effective talents to putting guilty people away instead of putting them back on the street.

Reviews

Claysaba Excellent, Without a doubt!!
XoWizIama Excellent adaptation.
Ariella Broughton It is neither dumb nor smart enough to be fun, and spends way too much time with its boring human characters.
Deanna There are moments in this movie where the great movie it could've been peek out... They're fleeting, here, but they're worth savoring, and they happen often enough to make it worth your while.
kaiserkarl31 This was a great show---good characters, good acting, good writing. I didn't like Julie's character in the pilot, but she settled in well for the rest of the series (though she was obnoxious at times, she WAS a sixteen year old girl living in luxury in LA...). The strong central characters---both Stark and Devlin---provided a good foundation on which to build the entire show, and the rest of the cast supported them well. The strike really did this show in, as it did many others, but I really think this one gets added to the long, long list of really good shows that got canceled before their times.
elshikh4 I tried so many times to love the show, but I couldn't. It seems brilliant formula; a team of lawyers act like a team of detectives, with a chief who's kind of bad guy turned into good guy albeit knows all the bad guy's tricks, plus a little charming daughter to put him in some moral dilemmas as a father. So it could be perfect as a court, detective, and drama show. It even managed to get (James Woods) the fine actor, and the lovable cinema star as the title's character, not to mention the super cute Danielle Panabaker. However feel the tragedy of it with me..(Woods) talks fast, OK, Disney itself totally redesigned the character of the evil god at (Hercules) to fit his ability of speaking rapidly, and it worked, in fact he always works, so what's the problem ? The problem here is that it sounds like he infected everyone and everything with the same characteristic to become the ultimate fault !There are so many lines in every episode, nearly all of them has been delivered oddly quickly (?!). As if the cast is forced to utter 2 hours conversations in only 45 minutes and if they couldn't someone will have them all killed ! There is nothing cuts in this one long non-stoppable dialog marathon to the extent that I find myself screaming sometime "Shut Up people" ! The endless swift phrases are filling the episode heavily, and will leave you breathless without much to follow. So it became assured causative for headache more than entertaining (or even comprehensible) show.Add to that what I see as the dullest, most spiritless, direction I've ever seen. MAN are the show's directors that stupid ?? It's non-thrilling to the utmost, and deadly executive like somebody turns over book's pages without even reading them ! I felt there is, always and forever, no time to make something different such as giving the show a certain taste, a personal touch or a sensitive look. What's the difference between its direction and dozens of another contemporary shows' direction ? Actually nothing ! Despite how this show's personality got what could make it distinctive already.Let alone else matters like seeing (Sophina Brown), (Henry Simmons) they're unbearable. The editing is badly rough, mechanical, and distracting, making the actors as rush robots, and the whole thing as cold tasteless delivery. Even the good points (in acting, writing, etc) were run over by this strange idiot speed and the totally blind directing to transform every episode into hasty drivel ends with a verdict seems eventually sudden or random ! It got canceled in May 2008 after only 38 episodes. So this shark ate its particularities, being understandable, and itself also.Obviously.. The makers of it are Guilty, and sorrowfully case is closed.
abdou_shah Is the best court-series i've seen ... worth to mention i was never a fan of any kind of clearing a crime such as csi .... till i saw shark, nice work in writing, directing and story telling still though it needs a lil bit of "24" theme -i think - as for the actors ,james woods still the best. the others are good really .. but i hate to say it ...they all look too damn good . almost too pretty to be lawyers!!! i know they have to attract audience but a lil bit of reality wouldn't hurt!!! for example : Jeri Ryan who plays "Jessica Devlin" she's talented ...and so on but according to her she's suppose to be a bit older !!! i don't wanna say it was a miss-casting but ..... this show has what the other Hollywood shows has : every body is good looking sexy and they all happen to be our stars !!! i like this show ....but its not perfect ...... i wish they did something else here but i guess man can't have it all ;-)
jmorris-8 James Woods is a master at his craft. Any actor who can take a cliché ridden "TOUGH GUY LAWYER" SERIES and make it --not only fascinating but, current in its vibe each and every week is a master at their trade. Woods carries the weight of this series on his considerable shoulders and seems to have that uncanny ability that you only see in a very few actors, to raise the "game" of some of the younger actors on the set as well as some of the journeymen actors who appear in guest starring roles on a week to week basis. The thing that differentiates SHARK from other Lawyer series we have seen.... From Raymond Burr's 301 episodes of Perry Mason, to present day shows such as L.A.Law and Law and Order, we have seen just about every possible story line under the sun......... I mean---- come on, is there anything else to explore here??? But, James Woods explores the proverbial DARKSIDE of the Legal business. From switching sides of the aisle, transforming from a high price advocate for drug dealers, murderers and other assorted low life's in LA County, to a RULES adverse Special District Attorney, Woods shows some of the antics that occur behind the scenes in the screwed up legal system. These shows need to show the personal lives of the people involved to keep the viewer interested. Shark does not let us down in this respect. Instead of showing some fairytale life of the rich and famous of L.A.. Woods is a Divorced, single parent of a teenager, played surprisingly well by Danielle Pannabaker. The give and take between Woods and Pannabaker is an excellent sub-plot for the series and the writers of the series give Pannabaker several key story lines in the first season. Pannabaker handles these roles like a seasoned professional. She had to raise her game to fit in with Woods. All in all, Shark is wildly entertaining. You know it is a good series when you find yourself eagerly awaiting the next installment ---- or is that the next "SHARK ATTACK????
