Synopsis

Britain is in the grip of a chilling recession... falling wages, rising prices, civil unrest - only the bankers are smiling. It's 1783 and Ross Poldark returns from the American War of Independence to his beloved Cornwall to find his world in ruins: his father dead, the family mine long since closed, his house wrecked and his sweetheart pledged to marry his cousin. But Ross finds that hope and love can be found when you are least expecting it in the wild but beautiful Cornish landscape.

Intcatinfo A Masterpiece!
Nessieldwi Very interesting film. Was caught on the premise when seeing the trailer but unsure as to what the outcome would be for the showing. As it turns out, it was a very good film.
Taha Avalos The best films of this genre always show a path and provide a takeaway for being a better person.
ZinQ The acting is quite simply, terrible. I never watched the first. But this is just silly. It's only the gorgeous Aidan Turner keeping me watching.
chrishealey13 Let me preface this by saying that I'm a 20 year old college guy who was just bored on Prime TV looking for something to watch, and was not expecting to enjoy a "romance drama" as much as this. In fact I cannot even believe I'm fond enough of this show to write a brief review about it. Is it slow? Yes. Is there a ton of action and crazy stuff going on? No. But it hooked me in nonetheless. I found the main character Ross Poldark to be very intriguing to watch and figure out what he was all about. I think Aidan Turner does an awesome job portraying the rough around the edges, yet tender character of Ross. Also, the other lead actors and actresses playing characters such as Demelza (Eleanor Tomlinson), Elizabeth (Heida Reed) and others do a fantastic job. I was expecting corny nonsense in a genre like this, but that's not the case. I think that comes from having a story based off a well respected author. Also, the visuals and soundtrack are absolutely phenomenal. I think that half the reason I watch is to see the gorgeous shots of Cornwall (aka the Cornish Riviera), along with the brilliant soundtrack by Anne Dudley which provide for some heart stopping moments. The intro and transitions in this show are some of my favorite parts of it, and that is not to dash the story, but simply meant to show just how amazing they are. Give it a watch! My only complaint would be some of the unrealistic outcomes from certain plots in the story which I don't want to give away that left me feeling a bit like "cmon...there's no way that was actually supposed to happen". Nevertheless, a great show. Hopefully you enjoy it as much as I did.
cherbert-64611 I can't wait to start reading the book. I love this show. It shows every possible emotions that you can think of. The chemistry between the characters are fantastic. I can't wait for the next seasons to come.
millises So tasteful and classy. Used to be a 10. What's happened to the writing? Going to the gutter, like the Hollywood vermin. You can have assorted story lines, real life drama, heartbreak, lovers reuniting and the continual competitions for power and ladies without going utterly classless. Downtown Abbey did not go so low, even with the rape of Anna. So disappointing and disappointed for the great actors now mired in this. A shame. Now pandering? To what group?
