alma3884052 I knew about this show for a long time. I have seen short teasers, ads and when it finally came out - I have seen crazy fans too. People said that it was simply the best thing in their lives. And I didn't believe them. I was blind. I assumed that the show was overrated and all of this talk about depth and wonderful storytelling are just white noise. I couldn't bring myself to watch this show for a long time, but then I finally did it. I stepped into this unknown territory just like the main heroes did. And I was stuck there. Not because I couldn't leave, but because I didn't want to. This show amazed me. Within 10 short episodes it managed to tell me a story more compelling than any full blown cartoon with 5 seasons could. That small adventure contained every emotion a human could have. I felt warmth in my heart, I felt sadness, I felt the fear and I felt everything else. I just can't put it into words. The show is so cold and so warm at the same time. So bright and so dark. And so full of life. So full of love and passion. The creators of the show put their heart and soul into this project and you can see that in every word, every frame. I can't describe it well enough. Just go watch it. See for yourself! Who knows what you will find for yourself in the unknown.
henrygburn Well, this was a charming surprise. This show haunted me and charmed me at the same time, it also left me with a lot of conflicting emotions and thoughts. Let's start with the seating. Let's just say that if I was going to rate this show only in seating I would start by giving it a 12/10. The atmosphere of this miniseries is incredible, like a mix of fairy tale, old cartoons from the 30ies and a dreary tone as the autumn turns to winter and the protagonist encounter different creepy settings. The music in this show is also amazing, featuring a soundtrack that is cheerful and dreary. Finally the characters. They are not the strong point of the series but I enjoyed the interactions between all the inhabitants of the unknown (the woodsman and the beast) even thou I think the two brothers where a bit lacking, specially Greg. All and all, if you haven't watched this fine series you are not spending your time correctly.
Alejandro Mosquera Over the Garden Wall is brilliant. Thank you Cartoon Network for allowing it to happen. Beautifully animated, wonderfully paced with just the right blend of humor and creepiness. Also - kudos to using the mini series format, I hope this is only a sign of things to come and more self contained short events are on the way. I'm tired of watching several seasons of a series that started strong end up wandering aimlessly with no clear endgame in sight.
inkenchantress Over the Garden Wall (2014) follows the story of two brothers, Wirt and Gregory, who have become lost in the woods after climbing over the garden wall. The series follows their attempt to find a way home in the magical and maudlin world of the Unknown, where they meet friend and foe alike. Over the Garden Wall hits the perfect note between fun and fear. Though the series itself is not scary, it crafts a sense of foreboding from the first episode to the last, which only escalates as the boys' journey continues on and they see more of what the Unknown has to offer. The characters themselves are very consistent, which works well since the Unknown is a world of twists and turns. Likewise, the growth the characters experience as the show progresses - especially Wirt - feels natural without becoming cliché. The animation itself is beautiful, reminiscent (at least to me) of the older Disney animation style (before and during the Golden Age especially). To match this lovely animation is a superb soundtrack. Overall, I would highly recommend this series. It's fairly short, but each episode is very well-crafted, and the overarching plot of the series is engaging and dark and wonderful in the best kind of way.
