Reviews

Gurlyndrobb While it doesn't offer any answers, it both thrills and makes you think.
Adeel Hail Unshakable, witty and deeply felt, the film will be paying emotional dividends for a long, long time.
Rosie Searle It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.
Dana An old-fashioned movie made with new-fashioned finesse.
agathorsmith I went into this open minded, as I am not usually a seeker of spy story lines. The characters are intriguing and developed from the offset, as an optimistic normie with issues and a genius virgin, the first episode is beautiful and warming to watch. The espionage-esque parts are few but creative and thrilling, the reveals get gritty, especially when delving into the protagonists background. It is fantastic to see great gay representation, London Spy features LGBT+ people but does not dwell on queer culture in any way. This makes it refreshing for viewers, as queer characters are not thrown in as an after thought or without reason. The motivation of retribution for a lost loved one makes for a great theme, this is a dark drama and another great modern BBC creation. Fully recommend!
shea765 the wonderful: beautifully filmed and acted. The leads are all superb, and on a scene by scene basis, the visual metaphors and logic of the character interactions are amazingly on point.the terrible: the script reads like a series of unrelated vignettes, with characters freely floating between scenes and behaving in unmotivated ways when viewed holistically. The story also hinges on the now rather dull concept of an all powerful 1984ish government with total control over its citizens (except of course when the scriptwriters conveniently ignore these powers). Without giving too much away, the mathematical "discovery" that drives the intrigue wouldn't appear plausible to an Algebra II student. If you're only interested in visual presentation, this series has much to offer. If you care about story, you surely won't be satisfied. I've seen some reviewers claiming resonance with "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy," but in le Carré's own words, this is quite the opposite thing.
Bernie-56 I persisted with this in the hope it would improve. It never did. It started OK and deteriorated into a spy soap. Fine production standards but a weak, unbelievable plot full of holes. Some of Britain's finest actors couldn't save it. Why all the fuss over software than can reveal lies in facial expressions? Cal Lightman does that easily in "Lie To Me", that series using the Facial Action Coding System of 1978 as the plot basis. Really, the software is just a MacGuffin.London Spy might have been improved to a small degree if Ben Whishaw carried a pack of tissues or handkerchief and used them frequently. He is given to soulful, hang-dog looks and pointless meanderings in various parts of London and the Thames estuary. Quite remarkable, too, that on some days he'd get out of bed with a lighter beard than the night before. It's some feat to turn a three-day stubble into a two-day stubble overnight.
gillbutler-69274 This started very slow and I wasn't sure if Id stick with it. Danny meets Alex and they seems so awkward together. I don't agree that they have chemistry. I saw none. They seem like chalk and cheese and you don't root for them to get together. It picks up a bit in the second episode on wards. The acting is supreme and believable. Its a scary concept that 'someone' could set you up so much. Always a step ahead.I was disappointed with the end. It was the usual what happens next, driving off into the distance. Hate endings like that. What would they do? Would they survive!! If you like the spy genre, go for it. Its a short series and will have you hooked.
