AutCuddly Great movie! If you want to be entertained and have a few good laughs, see this movie. The music is also very good,
ThedevilChoose When a movie has you begging for it to end not even half way through it's pure crap. We've all seen this movie and this characters millions of times, nothing new in it. Don't waste your time.
luis-97087 It's amazing how television is slowly driving me away from cinemas, with shows like this. "Godless" is much more than a western, it's a great story with actors, locations, dialogue and cinematography that match it. A wonderful piece of entertainment that borders fine art, the work of a great writer and director that isn't afraid to portrait ugliness and wonder, beauty and desperation, giving us characters that have real people inside.
skahty Unforgiven was a good one for me. And of course what guy (can't speak for the gals) didn't like Tombstone? Two totally different films from a director's standpoint but can be appreciated by the same audience. There are tons of flaws in Tombstone, but I could care less. Like Tombstome, I was entertained by Godless because the director was going for that mainstream audience who could appreciate many of the characters the director was putting in front of them. For the most part westerns are red blooded cowboy fantasies; lots horses, guns, and attractive woman in hoop dresses. Sure, per the critics, Godless could've been more accurate as far as the wounds produced by the guns. But how many westerns have you seen where the villain takes five shots to the body and is still crawling on the ground reaching for his gun with his last few breaths. And for the critics who were 'shocked' that Jeff Daniels was still alive after the final gun battle in La Belle? I'm sorry... but what western is worth it's weight in salt if the villain doesn't make it to the end? And for those who say the black soldiers would have faired a lot better than they did because of the history between the two groups well... maybe so. Instead they were caught off guard or ambushed in a way that left them merely defenseless. You can second-guess this movie all you want and complain about its side plots or inaccuracies given how it would have played out in real life. But it isn't real life. It's a fictional western that offers up a lot more than real life could ever give. Not one spaghetti western that Clint Eastwood starred in ended differently than we expected. In the end, Roy Goode got the money, the girl (at least once) and his freedom. Sorry if that disappoints some of you critics, but that's pretty much what I expecting and it delivered in more ways than one. And by the way, I know a lot of women who can handle a gun. And you'd be surprised how well YOU would if your life depended on it. Well written. Well directed. Well acted. Jeff Daniels' portrayes the perfect villain who gets his in the end; pretty much saw that coming as well. Nothing not to like here, especially if you're not looking. Hats off to the music director, too. Everything comes together nicely in this beautifully shot film.
NikkoFranco This show is well put together, with a good, solid cast to begin with and calibre actors. There is no second wasted and the production , storytelling is stellar. Love him, hate him, pity him, Jeff Daniels never fails to deliver. It is also welcoming to watch a Western show with emancipated women , the lack of muscles in the village did not equate to damsels in distress , instead nitty gritty fighters til the end. Thomas Bradie is all grown up and funny as the teenager deputy of this small, no man's land by fate village.
J. (CountJonnie) The story takes place in and around the village of La Belle, where almost all men died, and the women struggle to survive, when they encounter an outlaw on the run: Roy Goode. The viewer gets to know the women, Goode, life in La Belle, while Jeff Daniels keeps the viewers on the edge of their seat, in his hunt to find Goode and kill all who he loves.Roy Goode is an interesting character, and so are the women. Some events are random and borderline irritating, but those events are used to introduce minor characters. At times the show is slow, but the storytelling is more than decent and the characters are interesting, so the people and their backgrounds are engaging. This makes it forgivable that the show is pretty "in your face" with the obvious message that it is about good versus bad, and women versus man. It's present contiuously, irritating at moments, but it never kills the show or the pace. The credibility suffers at moments but the lead cast carries the show in a way that only professionals can. That brings us to Jeff Daniels, who portrays Frank Griffin, a psychopatic and philosophical gang leader who appreciates certain values and will go to any length to honor those. Daniels succeeds into making this character a balanced personality that showcases a broad range of traits and emotion, but never fails to scare every living being on his path, including the audience.Watch it for the beautiful scenery, a look in the life of people in Godless times, and for the most interesting and least superficial villain in a long time. This makes the whole show worthwile, including the flawed final episode.
