Synopsis

Genie in the House is a British sitcom broadcast on Nickelodeon UK about a widowed father with two teenage daughters who find a dusty old golden lamp while exploring the loft of their new home. A quick rub of the lamp releases Adil, a trainee genie from Balamkadaar who has been confined to life in the lamp for 1000 years. Philip has banned any use of magic in the house, yet the girls and Adil the Genie find ways to get themselves into trouble using Adil's wish granting powers. The mother is never mentioned, except on Adil's birthday when Philip mentions being a widower. As of March 2012, Genie in the House is now airing on the Starz Kids & Family cable network.

Curapedi I cannot think of one single thing that I would change about this film. The acting is incomparable, the directing deft, and the writing poignantly brilliant.
Francene Odetta It's simply great fun, a winsome film and an occasionally over-the-top luxury fantasy that never flags.
tyranid_slayer My sister usually watches shows on either Disney channel or nickelodeon. The shows on Disney are horrendous and the shows on nick are more intelligent. Until this came along.Genie in the house. It is an atrocity. I can't make out whether the show is British or very bad American. The show focuses on some very badly acted genie named adil his face is so orange he might as well have been made in a wotsit crisp factory. Basically it just follows that plot and the wishes the girls make. Which are quite bad actually. If anyone had a genie they would wish to make the world bow to their feet or have mind control or something. But the girls are the only good thing about this show their acting is slightly passable. And the brunette is quite attractive. So all in all don't watch it unless you like either of the girls.
kadejojevi I think this is a charming show. I work in a junior school and many of the children are talking about it so I watched it! It is innocent fun, the girls are pretty, the genie is very appealing and Dad and Uncle Max are always good natured, even when trying to be cross!! The story-lines seem to cover a lot of childhood wishes, to be a dancer or a singer, to play tricks on their teachers, have pets that talk, to be fashion icons or simply to believe in magic. Children need this kind of 'fantasy' fun and I can quite see why so many of them are becoming fans. Obviously it is NOT aimed at adults or critics or whatever, but for goodness sake if you don't like it - watch the news! Let the kids BE kids and enjoy a bit of innocent make-believe fun.
githfan I think this show is perfect for the kids it's aimed at. My 2 love it. OK the story lines are a little contrived and the acting is rather huge but they think it's hilarious. If you have kids under 12 and want them to watch something that will keep them entertained this is the show. It's not going to teach them anything but then what on Nickelodeon does these days! The 2 girls, Sophie and Emma, are pretty and well mannered and there is usually a moral to the story in the end of each episode. The father, Philip, plays a bit of a "dorky dad" and the genie is always getting the girls into trouble, but is amusing and acts very well.On the whole a nice piece of entertaining TV for the kids - gets my thumbs up!
Omaja3 I know it may not be the best show in the world but I actually quite like it. In time it'll improve, everyone just needs to give it a second chance instead of blowing it away after seeing one episode. I like all of the characters and the plot of the episodes. I especially liked the episode where Adil (the genie) turned Philip (the dad) into a hippie causing all sorts of problems throughout the episode. The talent show episode was really good as well. I hope to see more of Genie in the house on Nickelodeon. Everyday at 5pm.Go on what more could you wish for?
