Actuakers One of my all time favorites.
FuzzyTagz If the ambition is to provide two hours of instantly forgettable, popcorn-munching escapism, it succeeds.
Tayyab Torres Strong acting helps the film overcome an uncertain premise and create characters that hold our attention absolutely.
Zlatica One of the worst ways to make a cult movie is to set out to make a cult movie.
Desiree Te Hiko So after all this time of mucking around, not watching this movie, I finally decided to give it a watch. It had a promising plot line and fell under some of my favourite genres. Not to mention it had Mariah Carey in it so thought heck she can sing so may as well check out how good her acting is. I was pleasantly surprised, this was a genuinely good movie. I was constantly guessing what was going to happen! (of course there was some predictable bits but when isn't there in a movie right?) But it was the end that was actually worth waiting out for it actually surprised me as in threw me in one direction and then back in another, if you watch it you will see what I mean. Overall though the characters were well developed you could pick who was your favourite...or who you hated, and you couldn't fault the acting cause they were all actually pretty flawless. That's why I can't understand this rating on IMDb what are these people rating on? goes to show that sometimes just watch the movie anyway cause you could be pleasantly surprised. Give it a watch and you will hopefully be relatively impressed if not very.
mariahcarey90 I saw this well made thriller when it first came out, and have seen it many times since. A character driven and dark crime thriller with a an excellent cast all around, particularly Mariah Carey ( and yes I think 'Glitter ' is her best work, and my favorite film of all time). This film along with other films such as ' Tennessee' and "Precious' are my close second favorites. The film's script is well crafted with interesting twists. The plot moves along with some stylish visuals. It is truly a shame that this did not get a wider release. The uk DVD contains a behind the scenes segment , which for some reason was not included on the us DVD release. The uk DVD is worth seeking out for this extra, although the us DVD is the best print of the film. I say get both releases. Highly Recommend.
doyce4sub I watched this movie very late at night and was very surprised as to how good it really was. Mira Sorvino was very good and very believable in her part. When she told the other two women why she couldn't get interested in anybody, the plot changed to something more than just a "gangster movie". Mariah Carey did a good job as well and didn't seem to try and "take over" the film. Melora Walters role did a change as well and the outcome had more action than expected. Making Mira do something with the body of the man that the gangster had killed was unexplainable but she was truly believable in her reaction to what she was expected to do with the body. This movie is worth watching more than once. Maybe you'll be surprised as to how good the actors do in the film and how GREAT Mira Sorvino was in it as well.
hershykissed26 This movie totally kept me in suspense the entire time! I didn't even realize I cried at the end of the movie when they met for their birthdays - TEAR! When this movie was being made, of course there were rumors of "cat-fights" between Mariah Carey and Mira. I didn't see any animosity between them - like "behind" the scenes - which as really good. The other fact that Mariah didn't try to steal the movie or be a "diva" during the movie - I don't want to mention Glitter but this movie was MUCH better than that movie!!! What really got me into tears was the meat factory - I cried for her, I felt her pain and anguish. Mira facial expressions made you feel all the pain her character went through and you could feel that she had met good friends and you believed they would be friends forever..This movie was excellent!
