Stellead Don't listen to the Hype. It's awful
Dynamixor The performances transcend the film's tropes, grounding it in characters that feel more complete than this subgenre often produces.
Curapedi I cannot think of one single thing that I would change about this film. The acting is incomparable, the directing deft, and the writing poignantly brilliant.
alanpuzey This was a pretty decent movie, based on our times in the 2010s, dealing with radicalization and terrorism - and how it may, or may not be countered. The acting was fine throughout - and in particular Michael Sheen as the terrorist. I was wondering where he had gone after his great roles as Brian Clough, Tony Blair and David Frost. For me, this was a great come-back.I was drawn to compare this film to "Eye in the Sky", another film concerning the morality of decisions that have to be taken in our modern world of terrorism and counter terrorism. I think "Eye in the Sky" is superior in many ways and highly recommend it if you haven't seen it. Having said that, "Unthinkable" remains a film deserving attention, even if it is rather linear in its treatment.
Tweetienator The movie got some suspense but tbh I was not convinced about the moral dilemma of torturing or not torturing. In the scenario, we get the danger of some nukes (!) going off in some major US cities if the answer of their whereabouts is not revealed. That's ten of thousands if not hundreds of thousands dead and seriously injured civilians. A man who plays that "game" has lost (imo) all human rights - and if necessary of course the responsible people (be it CIA or military or whoever) for interrogating would take all necessary means to get that information - even torturing or "interrogating" the family of the fanatic.Just an example - if you break down the "moral dilemma" of Unthinkable (what means are justified and what not etc.) it would mean in the Cold War, if the Russians lets say, would have nuked some Western cities you won't shot back because the Russian civilians are innocent etc. And the Cold War worked, without the nuclear threat I bet the 3rd World War would already be part of the history books. But anyway, I like the movie because it got a lot of suspense, what I don't like is this "humanity bullshitting" - the only reasonable man was Mr. H., the rest of the crew just were undermining his work - you want to save 2 kids but are ready to let kill those fanatic thousands of kids!? How hypocritical is that!? As a thriller and drama, the movie works well, but the "important" message some reviewers mention is imo hypocritical as most of the characters involved are - they don't act like pros but like some middle-aged female human- right activists with nothing better to do and the only danger in life they ever met was maybe to get their Cholesterol level to high ;) For that reason, most of those characters in the movie seemed not unthinkable but unbelievable for me (e.g. the character played by Moss). I am certain that people involved in such an operation would be handpicked and ready to get the job done, no matter what.
hcsdfc Coming from India, it is easier for me to sympathize with the plot. I see this happen routinely. Muslims are so easy convince that there is nothing wrong with them, but everything is wrong with others. I have known that all religions have stayed with violence. But the violence goes down with time. It is very important to speak a language that the other person understands - and I think this movie does that talk. For everyone who pussyfoot around Islamist Terror, I would recommend to watch.
robmyers-84876 The film portrays the US military as incompetent fools and the FBI agent questioning whether torture is really necessary to reveal where a terrorist has hidden 3 nuclear bombs in US cities. Frankly if this scenario ever came to pass, any sane President would give an order to get the information whatever it takes. I would have all the US military as portrayed in the film relieved of their commands at once and have Jackson's H go to work on the terrorist with a blowtorch and hot needles. With 20 million lives at stake I cannot imagine what moral dilemma this poses and I could easily do it myself and burn the kids limbs off in order to get the information. As for the female FBI agent with morality issues, what the hell is she doing there anyway, apart from telling us torture doesn't work. Actually it does, just ask Liam Neeson in Taken.
