sirorlandoking I've been wanting to see this film for ages and i'm really glad i saw it, this film is incredible. This is the first film i've seen from Danny Boyle and his directing was basically perfect. He directed in such a way that you felt a part of Mark Reton's life. The script was incredible to, Ewan Mcgregor's opening speech blew me away. Very explicit sex and drug use which made you feel more involved and made the movie more intense. This movie really had a great way of showing what drug addiction is really like and how it can really mess up your life. The soundtrack is also great, Iggy Pop's lust for life is one of my favorite original songs and fitted really well with the opening scene. Another thing that really made this film stand out is the slightly sure real moments that it brings which makes it so original, the humor is fantastic. Over all i was on the edge of my seat with this movie and i loved every minute of it

hwoold Trainspotting is a film which plays a precarious balancing act. It's shocking and brutal, yet it's hilarious at the same time. The screenplay is incredibly witty and thought-provoking; the characters are well-rounded and the fast pace makes it very engaging. Its portrayal of drugs is honest, yet the film delves very much into the fantastical. The best thing about Trainspotting, however, is the brave soundtrack. Many of the best sequences in the film feature hard drug taking, overdoses, withdrawal symptoms and graphic violence to upbeat 90's songs. Whilst I admit that this sounds like a recipe for potential disaster, the outcome is genius. It makes you question basic ideas of friendship and family, staying in your mind even after you've finished watching it, like all great films should. From start to finish, it keeps you guessing as to what will happen next, playing with your expectations and delivering some serious surprises, most notably in the form of Kelly MacDonald's character. What I would say is don't watch this if you want a lovely, passive feel-good film. Whilst Trainspotting is funny, the level of humour is dark and the overall tone of the film is quite rightly pessimistic. If you like this film, I highly recommend Shallow Grave for further exploration of Danny Boyle's work. If you don't, choose life and watch the Greatest Showman or Frozen and have a nice sing.

Horst in Translation (filmreviews@web.de) "Trainspotting" is a 90-minute movie from the UK and this one was released back in the 1990s. It had its 20th anniversary last year and just got a sequel even more recently. This sequel brought back all the key players from the original here, not just Oscar winner Danny Boyle, but also his writer John Hodge and all the key players from the cast including lead actor Ewan McGregor. But this is not just a very British movie, it is also a very Scottish movie, not on the level of Braveheart, but close behind. It has also become a huge cult classic over the years and I am not too surprised it is comfortably inside IMDb's Top250 as really everybody has heard the title Trainspotting and not just since the sequel. But back to this one here: It is basically the story of a heroine addict and we get to watch his attempts to get clean. At the same time we get an insight into the criminal life involving him and his friends that keep raising new obstacles in his way to a better life. So there are many subjects in here: crime, friendship, addiction, love too, although it really isn't in the middle of the action at any point.I find it interesting to see how the careers of the protagonists continued in the two decades since this came out. Some made it big, starred on Star Wars or won Emmys, while for others (and not too few) this movie here is still the career-defining work. Not a surprise though given the film's status. One would be John Hodge, the writer I mentioned earlier because he scored an Oscar nomination with his screenplay here, nothing really to be taken for granted as I can see American audiences and awards bodies struggling with the material here. But I guess class prevailed. Oh yeah, I really want to mention the many James Bond references here and this film is definitely a nice little tribute to 007. I am a huge fan of the latter, so these inclusions were one reason why I liked the first 45 minutes more than the second 45 minutes overall. Sure the ending was pretty great, but before that there was a great deal of mediocrity at times sadly. This is a bit strange as there was a lot more happening in the second half than early on. The beginning was really more of an introduction to the characters and their backgrounds and I felt that story-wise there wasn't too much happening, at least not compared to the later parts of the film. Maybe it was Boyle's talent that made the film stand out when it stood out the most. I can't deny I like him. Overall, this 1996 film as well as its recent sequel were good, but not great films in my opinion. I recommend them both.

Harrison Tweed (Top Dawg) This is by far the best British film ever made!Danny Boyle is the Quentin Tarantino of the U.K.I remember seeing this for the first time in a theater and everyone's jaws just dropped. Amazing visuals, direction and writing, especially for it's era! I have to admit though, you need to be on some type of meds to come up with this type of writing, and whatever those were, share them! The creativity was perfection. But what made this film more impressive, was the soundtrack... probably one of the best movie soundtracks of all time!Both DVD and CD need to be in everyone's collection.A perfect 10/10 from me!
