Matialth Good concept, poorly executed.

Kidskycom It's funny watching the elements come together in this complicated scam. On one hand, the set-up isn't quite as complex as it seems, but there's an easy sense of fun in every exchange.
Doomtomylo a film so unique, intoxicating and bizarre that it not only demands another viewing, but is also forgivable as a satirical comedy where the jokes eventually take the back seat.
pascaloetterli I can tell from my own experiences that in German speaking countries, that this movie is considered a cult-movie and that it is extremely popular. It has also its traditional firm spot in TV every Christmas, because people still love it. Success is owed to the very lovely couple Libuse Safrankova and Pavel Travnicek and to the music written by the great composer Karel Svoboda. The props are great too (Czechoslovakian style of the early modern times) and combined with the lovely landscape, it gives everyone a real good Christmas fairy entertainment. 10 out of 10 for beloved childhood memories and the perfect Christmas fairy tale. Three generations of spectators cannot be wrong!
jana-87 One of the most endearing movies - not just fairy-tales. Every time it is over I feel strangely empty and sad. The magic has been lifted and the world is again same old and cold. Possibly not a very healthy reaction, nevertheless - the movie is a gem. Being from Czechoslovakia, having watched this movie at least once a year since it came out when i was a little girl, I sure am biased. But it turns out people love Popelka pretty much world over. I'm very very happy to find out.Thank you for sharing all those nice comments, it was a joy to read. Even the one slightly cynical reviewer from Wisconsin admits there is something to this film, despite the "awesome" effects. And there are a few of those indeed, e.g. rock stiff dead fox - that is expected to pass as fresh kill in a hunt... oh well. I only know one person, a guy from Detroit who spent a few Christmas in Slovakia, who found this movie boring to death. But then, he hates Luis Armstrong's Wonderful World... And yes, Popelka is available on DVD, unfortunately with horrid English subtitles (as already mentioned by a reviewer from Great Britain). Whoever is responsible for that particular translation and editing should not be fired, but buried alive.
bettina84 In Norway, Germany, Switzerland, Slovakia and the Czech republic this movie is shown every Christmas eve, and for many people (myself included) it won't be Christmas without it. The channel tried to take the movie of the program one year because it's such an old film, but there was a massive upheaval and luckily it was stopped and Christmas was saved and it has been showed ever since. It is a sweet Cinderella story, told in a different way then the classical tale we're used to. The movie is extremely charming and beautifully made, although without any Hollywood style special effects. Unfortunately this movie has suffered the fate of most non-English movies in the US and have been more or less completely overlooked.
millixen Wow! That's all I've got to say about this movie. It's shown in Norway every Christmas eve, and although I'm only 17, it's a tradition for me! It's just something I've seen every year since I was a kid. And the fact that every person is dubbed by the same man in Norwegian, doesn't matter at all. It's just part of the charm. The movie tells about the courage and strong will to a young girl, and who knows, maybe it's important for little girls to watch it (they won't turn out like those Britney Spears/Paris Hilton Barbie dolls, they'll have more guts than that!) I personally don't know a single person who doesn't like that movie, so I'll recommend it for everyone now. It's AMAZING!!!!
