ShangLuda Admirable film.
Sexyloutak Absolutely the worst movie.
Tobias Burrows It's easily one of the freshest, sharpest and most enjoyable films of this year.
Cheryl A clunky actioner with a handful of cool moments.
Howlin Wolf Annoyingly smug and self-satisfied.Make fun of romantic comedies all you want - God knows that some of them deserve it... but when you explain everything over and over, to make sure we get the 'joke', that makes you just as bad. Irony doesn't save you.The vast majority of the humour drags insufferably... but then the one joke that does actually work on some weird level is edited so tightly as to deny us any reaction. It's a constant and perhaps even deliberate rejection of tone, and it had me off balance from the beginning, never to get back on side... Perhaps that was the intention, but if you want to destroy convention, then make it an inside job, and do it with engaging characters. It's not as if I have a fundamental objection to David Wain's style of comedy, either, because I loved "Wanderlust"... Oh well.
Canberk Emri The movie is making fun of every cliché that happens in a romantic comedy in a brilliant way. It is not a lousy weird parody that doesn't have its own storyline cause it does, it actually has a storyline about wisely created two characters that are probably made of every single character in boring, same old romantic comedy movies. There are not any specific jokes that turns the movie into any kind of movie that you can watch anytime you go to a theater but it is witty in a subtle way. There are times that it makes you laugh out loud but it is usually hilarious in a way that is not clearly obvious. Amy Poehler is clearly adorable and makes you smile and feel weirdly warm overtime she says something about being a ordinary romantic comedy "I am going to a break up but I will meet the man of my life in a few months" single woman. Paul Rudd is also hilarious because he has the perfect material for a classic romantic comedy that is made fun of in the movie but he is not going for it. He is actually going for the hilarious character that has every weird characteristic from romantic comedy men. It is a fun movie you can watch with people and have great time.
FlashCallahan Joel and Molly are on a double date with their friends Kyle and Karen. After Kyle tells them a story about how he and Karen disagree on the Sunday paper, they ask Joel and Molly how they met. They describe their relationship as something like a romantic comedy. Joel is the typical leading man that is attractive without being threatening, and Molly is a quirky and klutzy woman. Their relationship, as most romantic comedies do, begins in New York City.......This is one of those films that you shouldn't like, it shouldn't work, but for some reason, it's a barrel of laughs from start to finish. The film is basically a satire of basically all the romantic comedies made from 1989 to present, but it most notably references You've Got Mail, Forget Paris, and When Harry Met Sally. And for the most part, the film gets it right. The cast are great, Rudd is as likable as he ever is and has great chemistry with Poehler, and at times, they are much better than the material, so they make the film that little bit better than it should be.But every now and again, the movie decides to go full spoof rather than satire, and this is when the film makes you cringe rather than smile. The satirical references to the genre they are mocking are spot on and close to genius, but the sight gags just don't work, just like spoofs haven't worked since the last Naked Gun movie, so luckily they don't use them too often. The end of the film is completely bonkers, featuring Michael Shannon with a sword, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan probably being the coolest he ever will be.So the film works, it really shouldn't, but the cast are so likable, they should have toned down the spoof parts though.
dafkes First off : this is my first review on IMDb ever, I've been browsing here for almost a decade but now the time has come to state my opinion. Because I can't really comprehend the low score for this movie, and also it has put me off from viewing this for a while, even though I'm a David Wain fan.I guess the humor isn't just for everybody. To be honest, I think this flick will have more success in Europe/Britain countries because the gags in the movie are really 'un-American type humor" like. Do you like absurd satire? This movie is filled with witty goofs that really ridicule al the modern day rom - com clichés, amazing performances by all actors that finally get to display another kind of comedy. Paul Rudd is an amazing versatile actor and Amy Poehler is definitely the funniest woman out there in Hollywood! This is my kind of movie, where I really laugh during the movie, like physically laugh out loud and later mesmerize how great it was, thinking about the best quotes that were in there. Just the title alone got me in a giggle every time I see it.No doubt this will have a cult following, just like American Wet Hot Summer.
