Steineded How sad is this?
XoWizIama Excellent adaptation.
Livestonth I am only giving this movie a 1 for the great cast, though I can't imagine what any of them were thinking. This movie was horrible
StyleSk8r At first rather annoying in its heavy emphasis on reenactments, this movie ultimately proves fascinating, simply because the complicated, highly dramatic tale it tells still almost defies belief.
jollo90 Just as all other Sparks' cheap harlequins, the film features a second-hand plot, shallow characters, utterly horrible writing (the film kept me smirking throughout) and a lot of manipulative strategies aimed to jerk a tear or two out of unsuspecting viewers. Not to mention abundant sexist themes which even I found downright offensive despite being quite insensitive to these as such (as they were not a part of jokes but rather a part of the universe Sparks imposes upon his readers/viewers).Must watch. Not.
lisafordeay The Longest Ride is directed by George Tillman Jr and is another novel turned into a movie wrote by Nicholas Sparks and stars Avalon High's Britt Robertson and Scott Eastwood(son of legendary actor Clint Eastwood). Now for those of you who have seen Nicholas Sparks movies then you probably know what to expect. A boy and a girl meet, they fall in love, conflict drives them apart, always corny dialogue, gorgeous male leads and ladies,a sad plot device where a character dies unexpectedly,a rich or poor boy or vice versa basically you get the jest of what I am on about. The story is about a bull rider named Luke Collins(Eastwood)who falls in love with a college student named Sophia Danko(Robertson)and at the beginning of the film he ends up being injured from his rodeo training and we later see Luke and Sophia driving one stormy night and they stumble on an elderly man who crashed his car causing it to explode and they bring the old man to the hospital. Turns out his name is Ira (played by Alan Alda)who befriends Sophia and Luke(Sophia especially he grows fondly of)and he asks her to read him letters from his past as he had a box full of letters from his wife Rita who he met many years ago (this time its in a flashback with Jack Huston and Oona Chaplin, who play Rita and a young Ira who meet and fall in love and you get the idea). So what has this old man's story got to do with Sophia and Luke's relationship.Bottom line this movie has been done to death before like I have mentioned before. Sparks is like Micheal Bay meets Walt Disney as if you seen any of Disney movie or Micheal Bay film you know exactly what its about. Nicholas Sparks is sort of my guilt pleasure ,I love watching sappy love stories where a poor boy and a rich girl fall in love and disaster strikes etc. I loved The Notebook and A Walk To Remember which was done by Nicholas Sparks. So yeah I enjoyed The Longest Ride. C+7/10Not bad its fairly good if you can forgive the two stories merged into one.
Desertman84 After watching The Choice,I gave another new Nicholas Sparks movie a try with The Longest Ride. It stars the diminutive but lovely Britt Robertson and Dirty Harry's good-looking son,Scott Eastwood. It tells a story about a romance between a professional bull rider and a college art student and how their romantic story was further developed when they save an old man from an accident. Alan Alda, Lolita Davidovich and Oona Chaplin co-stars.Luke Wilson got injured in bull riding. As he was about to recover at North Carolina,he meets Sophia Danko and romance starts to develop.Their love story becomes interesting as they save Ira Levinson from an accident while they were on the road going home from their first date. Both get to know more about Ira as he was recovering from the hospital and they get to learn about his story particularly the romance between him and his late wife,Ruth. Both stories are being told simultaneously as the film progresses.Screenwriter Craig Bolotin makes an effort to provide an interesting story but to no avail especially for movie viewers aren't fans for romance stories. It was obvious that the story was far from original as we have seen them in other movies before.Too bad that the stories of Luke and Sophia as well as Ira and Ruth have a lot of contrivances that one may find it silly and annoying. No question that it was emotionally manipulative particularly as Luke and Sophia manages to make life-changing decisions for the sake of their relationship.Do I need to mention the ending wherein Luke bids on a simple portrait where nobody is interested in?Too bad that even the bull riding aspect of the story did not provide any interest at all.The characters were also simply one-dimensional as well that they don't provide any interest in the film.In the end,it was simply another typical Nicholas Sparks story that were seen in the previous films that were adapted particularly The Notebook.Only people who are into romantic films would find this enjoyable and entertaining no matter how many times they have seen the same story in previous romantic films before whether they were written by Sparks or not.
nhermida I would have given this movie 6 stars if it weren't that Scott Eastwood is such a bad actor. You shouldn't notice that someone is acting. I found myself trying to ignore this so I could get into the story. The rest of the cast was pretty good, especially Jack Huston and Oona Chaplin, who were very genuine. Now to the story. It was just OK. I knew what was going to happen pretty much from the beginning, and we needed the Hollywood ending. Probably a more realistic ending and a better handling of the jumps back and forth between the two actual stories would have created a better movie.
