SpuffyWeb Sadly Over-hyped
Smartorhypo Highly Overrated But Still Good
Dynamixor The performances transcend the film's tropes, grounding it in characters that feel more complete than this subgenre often produces.
Jonah Abbott There's no way I can possibly love it entirely but I just think its ridiculously bad, but enjoyable at the same time.
jeffdiggy This movie just has some HILARIOUS parts. You know how athletes are SO good...SO talented that they make it look easy? THAT'S the case with Eddie Murphy as a comedic actor in this movie. There are parts that are simply incomparable-hilarious. Yes, it does look like they made the movie in a weekend...allowing Murphy to (obviously) Ad Lib in many parts. But THAT'S what makes this movie magical. It's SO fun to watch and SO funny...even when it's corny. THIS was Murphy at his apex...in a not-so-apex movie. For the sheer funniness of it and underrated aspect of Eddie Murphy just being a VERY good, NATURAL actor that makes it look EASY (I feel WILL win an Oscar one day if/when given the right role...it's kind of amazing he hasn't won one yet)...I give this movie a HIGH 8.
Fluke_Skywalker Plot; A man who specializes in finding missing children is tasked with recovering "The Golden Child", a young boy who is prophesized to be the savior of mankind. This is a weird movie. And also terrible. This is a weird and terrible movie. With star Eddie Murphy coming off of the smash hit Beverly Hills Cop, it's no surprise that he and director Michael Ritchie more or less try to make this Beverly Hills Monk, with Murphy essentially porting over his Axel Foley character in all but name. Unfortunately the material here is vastly inferior, and even Murphy's shtick isn't enough to spackle over this disjointed mess of a movie.
makiprettywoman3 I saw this movie available on Netflix and was interested in the premise. You have Eddie Murphy who plays a private detective that specializes in finding missing children. He is told he is the "chosen one" and must protect the "Golden Child" who was kidnapped by an evil sorcerer. I didn't know exactly what to expect. Eddie Murphy is known for doing a lot of action or comedy movies. This movie ends up being a mix of action, comedy and fantasy. Some people will mention this movie was a low point in his career. Well this movie earned close to 80 million dollars. Eddie Murphy has done some more recent movies that have done far worse. There are a lot of funny parts in this movie. I really enjoyed this movie. This was a fun movie to watch.
gwnightscream Eddie Murphy, Charles Dance, Charlotte Lewis and Victor Wong star in this 1986 fantasy-comedy. This begins in Tibet where a magical child (J.L. Reate) gets kidnapped by demonic man, Sardo Numspa (Dance) and his men. Soon, we meet wise-cracking, social worker, Chandler Jarrell (Murphy) who is chosen to rescue the child. Lewis plays Kee Nang, a woman who helps and becomes romantically involved with Chandler and the late, Wong (Big Trouble in Little China) plays her wise-man father. After Kee falls under a spell, Chandler tries to save her by rescuing the child and facing Sardo. Randall "Tex" Cobb (Raising Arizona) and Wong's "Big Trouble in Little China" co-star, James Hong are also featured. I grew up watching this, it's one of my favorites with Murphy that's underrated and Dance is a good villain as usual. I recommend this.
