Glucedee It's hard to see any effort in the film. There's no comedy to speak of, no real drama and, worst of all.
KnotStronger This is a must-see and one of the best documentaries - and films - of this year.
Lidia Draper Great example of an old-fashioned, pure-at-heart escapist event movie that doesn't pretend to be anything that it's not and has boat loads of fun being its own ludicrous self.
Cheryl A clunky actioner with a handful of cool moments.
Oslo Jargo (Bartok Kinski) It's very dull, nothing happens, a bit of cig smoking, some talk, but no "Invasion of Earth". It has from The Narrow Margin (1952), Hellfire (1949), and The Killing (1956), Marie Windsor, who was age 45 here, but looks 52. She was still cute, but doesn't have the acting chops to pull this snoozer through. No one does here.Still, get it to complete your 50's list of science fiction films. Also recommended: Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956) I Married a Monster from Outer Space (1958) The Angry Red Planet (1959) 20 Million Miles to Earth (1957) The Day of the Triffids (1963)
ziklag1990 Very, very skimpy "the aliens are coming" movie. The acting is more than ordinarily bad, although the scientist father amusingly suggests a cross between Leave it to Beaver's Hugh Beaumont and Vincent Price. His neglected wife appears to be zonked on Xanax throughout the film, which might charitably explain her strangely sluggish, tepid reactions to rather momentous events. The dialogue is sub-rudimentary and doesn't even qualify for the respectable term "pedestrian". The screenwriter doesn't seem to have the basic awareness of how people talk to each other; e.g., when one person says A, the other will likely respond with B. This is especially frustrating when we're trying to get get specific information and a character fails to ask the obvious question from the one who has that information. Conversations are so disjointed, missing so many self-evidently necessary links, and so awkwardly inarticulate that the hopeful viewer may see it as some kind of deliberately murky screenplay experimentalism. This hope would probably not be justified. So despite what you may have read in other reviews here, this is not a "pleasant surprise", an interesting "find" or anything like that. It is terrible movie, in every category just about reaching the awfulness level of average porn, without the obvious mitigating factors. But for all of that, I was glad I stuck it out until the end. The final shot is genuinely chilling, even shocking, and made me feel far less embarrassed about my perseverance.
utgard14 A scientist in charge of America's space program takes a vacation with his wife and two kids, only to find they are being haunted by mysterious doppelgangers of themselves. Good sci-fi story of the Body Snatchers variety. I'm not sure why this one is rated so low on IMDb. My first guess was that Mystery Science Theater was to blame but apparently not this time. The direction is static and the movie has a sort of made-for-TV quality about it, but I thought it was enjoyable. It kept my interest throughout and, despite the lack of action or special effects, I was never bored. There is also a decent amount of atmosphere and suspense. The movie makes great use of its location shooting at the famous Greystone Mansion. If you like old-school sci-fi movies, even ones filmed on a low budget, then you will probably like this one.
oscar-35 *Spoiler/plot- The Day Mars invaded Earth, 1963, Earth scientist send a robot probe to Mars and it arrives but is destroyed by a Martian intelligence. The Martains invade Earth as a response to the robot probe but duplicating the major scientist and his immediate family.*Special Stars- Kent Taylor, Marie Windsor, William Mims, Betty Beall, Gregg Shank *Theme- Planets always defend themselves.*Trivia/location/goofs- This film was shot in Beverly Hills, Greystone Mansion. The owner was an oil billionaire, now a public park and the house is open for tours as a county park. Look for the jokey robot probe on Mars in the opening scenes.*Emotion- Very little intricate plot points are in this film and the film's downbeat ending is expected, premature and boring. The only plot twist scene that was memorable was the family's body ashes are seen in the pool and that washes away when the pool is filled by the Martian impostors. A thoroughly un-entertaining film in all aspects. Does not have even a 50's B-movie corny dose of a campy fun for the viewer. A flat film with little to call memorable.
