Cristal The movie really just wants to entertain people.
Francis Freespirit Riviere Miles O'Keefe was not only the most spectacular looking Tarzan ever,a and he acted for all what were required from the Tarzan's standards with a realistic touch of goodness, innocence and playfulness. His role was mute and that credit(or blame) should go to the film director With a different movie script, using some of realistic story line, Miles ability would have been shown in the best Tarzan movieMiles is also absolutely gorgeous and magnificent in SAS in San Salvador as Prince Malko and special agent. he was excellent in the role. He exudes seduction and sexiness and at the same time He was elegant, relaxed, mysterious, and decisive in actions . I thought he outplayed the character of the most sexy special agent ever played !
Tracy Winters Did director John Derek even once think of how his abominable films would be received by the public? Answer: no.After everybody stops accidentally falling into the lagoon, Richard Harris with Bo in tow sets out to find Tarzan, but no one really knows why. It's a fact that Bo couldn't act her way out of her own butt-hole, but Harris fares better in this area. While his character consists of no more than a lunatic enigma and bombastic yelling, they eventually find Tarzan only half way through the film, but by this time you won't care anymore (if you ever did to begin with).A total misfire, which brings us back to the original question.... what the hell was John thinking when he wrote and directed these twisted bore-fests?
DJOfRadioGallifrey Sure it's an 80s movie, but it still has the technical process of the 60s and 70s- plus the shameless over use of slow-mo during all the actions scenes- which would have perked up the movie. There is hardly any new direction in this movie, meaning the actors were told to just play the character how they are written, which fits into every single version ever made of Tarzan - they don't do anything new.Basically the (male)writers watched and copied every annoying film were there's an annoying damsel in distress who appears inadequate at everything apart from pretending to be virginal while playing hard to get and getting into Tarzan's pants. Plus despite all the woman has been through she still manages to keep all her make-up on, didn't know they had waterproof mascara in those days.....Tarzan again is a hairless ape- there's no such thing as facial hair in the jungle it seems. The father was the best part of the movie apart from when he's made to say erotic things which are later copied by the daughter after all it is an erotic film made by men and for men.
Waffle-Rama Having seen "10" about a year earlier, and thinking Tarzan the Ape Man might be similarly funny and entertaining, I took the 45 minute drive from a very rural town in San Mateo County, California "over the hill" to San Carlos to see a late night showing one Friday night in 1981. There were only a few people in the theater when the show started and several left as the movie dragged on. I was bored out of my mind except when Bo Derek found herself in a situation where she could shed her clothes. From the standpoint of pure physical beauty of human form, Bo Derek was at her physical peak when her husband shot her for this film. Twenty-seven years later, I remember in vivid detail the scene of her coming out of the ocean in full-frontal nudity. A 12 or 14 foot tall image of Bo's glistening wet body strolling up and out of the blue ocean directly towards the camera, into bright sunlight is one of the most beautiful images a person could ever imagine. She is stunning and the image will be burned into my memory for the rest of my life. When VHS was available in the late 80's or early 90's, I rented a copy from RKO video and was disappointed that most of that scene had been cut. If anyone knows where an uncut version is available, I would surely enjoy reliving the experience.
