Matialth Good concept, poorly executed.
Dirtylogy It's funny, it's tense, it features two great performances from two actors and the director expertly creates a web of odd tension where you actually don't know what is happening for the majority of the run time.
Hayden Kane There is, somehow, an interesting story here, as well as some good acting. There are also some good scenes
Mandeep Tyson The acting in this movie is really good.
Pjtaylor-96-138044 'Sunshine (2007)' is one of the strangest cases of a total tonal, genre-bending gear-switch I think I've ever seen committed to film, with the initially grandiose existentialism of the thoughtful and slow-paced science-fiction thriller exchanged wholeheartedly for a strangely silly and slightly schlocky 'slasher' flick finale frustratingly forced into the film in place of a more appropriate ending that cashes the cheque of its intriguing ideas and terrific themes in a more expected yet satisfying way. Though for the faults that this two-handed approach provides, I don't necessarily think that it can totally ruin what came before and, while it's certainly an odd choice that taints the sum of its parts, the overall effect of the picture isn't lost thanks to its uniquely interesting aesthetic, expert direction, engaging high-concept ideas, superb soundtrack and satisfying screenplay. It's rare that the thing that sets a film apart from pretty much all others in the genre is also the thing that threatens to drag it below them, and to complain about originality seems slightly hypocritical even if in this case the choice is totally tonally inconsistent. Thankfully, the quality of the overall piece makes this somewhat of an underrated gem. 7/10
joecoby45 Danny Boyle outdoes himself with this science fiction masterpiece, which offers a suspenseful and unpredictable story with interesting, well developed characters. The basic premise is that a crew of astronauts must reignite the Earth's Sun with a nuclear bomb in an effort to prevent it from going out permanently. That's the main story point of the film but ultimately Sunshine is really about the characters. More specifically their interactions with each other, the tough choices they have to make, and their ultimate deterioration as people throughout the dangerous and deadly voyage.Sunshine is both entertaining and suspenseful throughout its 100 minute run time. Its extraordinarily well directed and acted and has great special effects and shot composition as well. If there are a couple flaws in the movie it would be some poor choices of editing towards the end of the movie and some questionable character logic every once in a while. But besides those little nit picks this is one of the finest Sci Fi movies of the century. Definitely give it a watch.
welshnew50 know those movies, where religious ambiguities/supposed-mystery , is slipped in without people KNOWING? ie, from the advertising / edited/re-edited advertising, to make them seem LESS shoving it down your throat?this is movie, is one of those. appears to be sci-fi ... is not.has obsessive metaphor of sun V moon, but little moon, and only the angry-Germans because of this, because of that , 'consequence' , of the AMBIGUITIES OF NEGLECT , as of whoever-else, not understanding what too LITTLE SUN, can do to one.OK, so that's not a loaded premise, now is it? ha!of course it is, and of course UNreasonable guesses as to CAUSES of disease and whatnot, from the past/in history, say NOTHING as of modern Germans/whoever else , under cloud rather-than.but the SPECIFIC religious references are unmistakable, just as much as they are walk-out-of-the-cinema walk-out able...obsessive probably doesn't nail it enough.
thornethomas707 So I never heard of this movie before today so when I read about it on IMDb I thought the idea could make for a great film so I decided to watch it... So here's the thing I thought the way they decided to portray such an incident like the sun dying and them trying to save it as kinda ridiculous. My first thought was that yes the story would be based on the ship but there would be a fulfilling and rich back story on how this horrible thing came to be and on the characters lives so that I could fully fill connected but instead that was not the case. The whole plot was a bunch of Astronauts on a mission to save the sun. The rest of the film is just a bunch of effects and ridiculous situations. Overall I couldn't connect to this film at all. The main reason for that was because I didn't know anything about the characters and thus didn't really care what happened to them. It was a Good idea just in my opinion badly directed, It could of been great.
