Megamind To all those who have watched it: I hope you enjoyed it as much as I do.
Derry Herrera Not sure how, but this is easily one of the best movies all summer. Multiple levels of funny, never takes itself seriously, super colorful, and creative.
Maleeha Vincent It's funny, it's tense, it features two great performances from two actors and the director expertly creates a web of odd tension where you actually don't know what is happening for the majority of the run time.
Lela The tone of this movie is interesting -- the stakes are both dramatic and high, but it's balanced with a lot of fun, tongue and cheek dialogue.
ianlouisiana ...are doing exactly what in a Steven Seagal movie?Well,it's certainly not acting that's for sure - but that's nothing new.And I certainly hope they're not taking themselves seriously because there is only one actor in "Submerged" and that is the mighty Stevester himself. He appears to be suffering from the reverse of Michael Jackson syndrome and changing into a 20 - odd year old black gangsta instead of a 50 - odd year old white movie star whose best days are sadly some way behind him. But he's only got to grin - which he does rather a lot in this film - and I can still see the old Steve shining through the extra few pounds. Many of his later films certainly seem directed at the wannabe gangsta market certainly and he usually has some cool young black chap to back him up and enhance his street cred. Here his gang includes Mr Vinnie Jones, who,as a footballer was most famous for squeezing another footballer's testicles.Mr Jones now does TV adverts for CPR - well,it's a living,I guess. He is yet to appear as a pundit on "Sky"(that refuge for sad unemployables)but I wouldn't rule it out. "Submerged" is everything a Seagal movie should be - flashy, jerky and with a frankly indecipherable plot. And very, very funny. The director is like a kid with a new toy and everybody seems to be having a great time in Bulgaria - and why not,it's a lovely country. And I expect the Brits flew out by "Easyjet". Vinnie probably worked his passage by acting as a bouncer. I thoroughly enjoyed watching it,fully aware I was watching a complete nonsense but unable to turn it off. That is Big Steve's magic and his appeal to many of the less po - faced of us.
thinker1691 There are many Steven Seagal films and if you are just seeing one for the first time, boy are you behind the times. He is perhaps the finest actor to do action movies, rest a bit, then come back and do another one with even more action then the previous one. Yet for his fans, one cannot get enough of the tall man. Despite being cast as different ethnic types, his persona remains the same. In each, he is believable and worth paying the admission price. In this movie, he is once again back in trouble with the authorities. Released from a military prison, he and his men are once again called on to save the country. However, audiences discover that he is not the military's first choice and so Seagal playing Military commando Chris Cody, is told little of the top secret mission, only that he must travel into a foreign country, prevent the death of the U.S. Ambassador and bring back the previous team soldiers. Unknown to him, that team has been Programmed to kill him and his new team. Confusion reigns, but not the explosive excitement and hair-raising stunts. Despite the many snide remarks of Seagal, being too old, fat or slow, he still entertains his fans and that's the bottom line. Well done. ****
tatsu2050 Nothing much new about the story but you don't watch a Steven Seagal movie for that. Nonetheless a doc without a conscience using a mind control machine as the evil guy has room for a lot of fun. Through in a team of various military guys lead by Steven "wood face" Seagal and two hot chicks who can fight and you have a recipe for a very likable no brainer. So far so good...There are plenty of gun fights. And most of us who like this kind of action flick have gotten used to the bad guys shooting a lot and not really hitting much. But the camera work in this movie makes it as ridiculous as can be. In one scene you see that about 40 or 50 bad guys are standing like 30 feet away and still take minutes until they hit one of the 5 or 6 good guys. Of course they still lose or the movie would have been over in its first third.Hand to hand fights: They actually COULD have been pretty good if the cut hadn't been totally awful. There are some nicely executed moves but you barely get the chance to appreciate them. With a less hectic cut I would have given the movie one more star. The characters: Steven Seagal is Steven Seagal, same role he always plays. The above mentioned chicks look good and do some fighting - what more do we want? OK, boobs would have been nice, but we can live without it ;). The highlight of the movie, to me, is Vinnie Jones who plays some bad ass Brit, which he does damn well in every of his movies. A pity he didn't get more camera time. The rest of the military team just sucks and is totally colorless. You don't connect and you don't mind when almost all of them get shot up. The evil doctor, played by Nick Brimble, looks evil, talks evil and acts evil. There are also a corrupt agent and a rich company owner being a little bad here and there but they should have put more into the doctor instead of bothering with boring and useless additional characters. With a better director this movie could have easily been a 5 star movie. As it is a lot of potential just got wasted and I really can't recommend this flick to anyone. I had a really hard time giving it a 3 and not a 2.
marsellus7 In 'Submerged', Seagal stars as some geezer called Cody who is like a hard bloke that the government go to when they need help. I worked out why they didn't get Jack Bauer straight away - the film was made at the time in between seasons when they thought he was dead! So anyway, Fat Cody then gets his whole team back to help him do this thing. Oh yeah, the thing is blow up some dam that some bad guy is hiding in. Oh yeah, the bad guy is none other than Little John from Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. So anyway, Fatty and his crew of hard nuts made up of assorted crap actors such as Vinnie Jones and the old guy who batters someone to death with a dildo in Lock Stock, then go about getting to this dam. So they leave their aircraft carrier but before they get there, they double-cross someone who was apparently double-crossing them and steal his helicopter (I dunno I must have blinked cos I completely missed how Seagal worked that one out!). So then they take the helicopter to some bird who is like one of Seagal's old secret agent women (he probably banged her!) and she turns out to be none other than the woman who is in those Daz adverts! You know the 'whiter than white' woman. She just started working on Coronation Street. At her rate of ascension, she'll be receiving an Oscar in no time! Advert -> Seagal Movie -> Coronation Street -> Oscar! No prob'! So then they get to the dam but Little John has disappeared. So they fight some army and blow the dam up. In one bit Seagal selflessly runs at a tank with nothing but a hand grenade and destroys it. But not before a pithy remark "Here catch!" Amazing! So instead of escaping in the helicopter they arrived in they decide to steal none other than a submarine! I don't know. Of all the stupid get away vehicles he may as well have just swam back to the aircraft carrier and pretended he was a whale! Anyway, I thought I'd let that one go but it turns out that some people on the submarine are being mind controlled by Little John and decide to sink the sub. They kill most of the team leaving only Fatty, Vinnie Jones, some black girl and The Daz Woman alive. The four of them then escape in a life raft before the sub gets blown up.Can you believe all this only happened in one hour? I still haven't finished watching it but I think I'll have to find out how it concludes in a little while. I can't take too much Seagal at once!(PS) I forgot to mention that Seagal has almost been completely dubbed throughout the whole film by some bloke that doesn't sound anything like him. I have no idea why but it is so obvious! When it IS Seagal's own voice he tries to be black. He actually says to Vinnie Jones in the dam... "Damn, there some sick sh*t up in here, Alligator!" Then a second later he adds "Be sure to get yo' white ass 'outta here!"This film has to be seen to be believed! But don't watch it all in one viewing or you may go totally head-mental!
