lonerevd I saw one review saying if your sharp and stay on point you'll get whats going on. Perhaps, but I'm focused and at times this lost me totally, it seems the writers intent was to make sure you had no clue what was happening, perhaps it should come with a script so the actors aren't the only one's who know whats going on.I don't ask for much from a film, a cohesive story that makes some sort of sense and tolerable acting, but when a movie makes it my job somehow to try to figure out what the writer was trying to convey well I just don't find that relaxing or entertaining. Why are people following her, how does this vampire club fit into these straight laced college students life? Gosh this seems like a warm and cozy place to hang out and we totally fit in here.. Really? Good for those who are able to take something away from this movie, all I got out of it was loss of time I won't get back.
wes-connors "After a night of partying, college freshman Cassie (Melissa Sagemiller) and her friends are involved in a bloody car accident that turns into a horrifying tale of the supernatural. Overwhelmed by startling hallucinations, Cassie's grip on reality slips further as she begins a desperate race against time to learn who her real friends are, who wants her dead, and who will be the Soul Survivor," according to the DVD sleeve description. Subtitled "The Killer Cut", this R-rated release boasts, "More blood! More sex! More terror than the theatrical release!" If you're looking for the promised high level of Blood! Sex! and Terror! you may want to look elsewhere. However, writer/director Steve Carpenter (not the Deftones dude) and cinematographer Fred Murphy do combine for some outstanding visual elements throughout this unfortunately stupid otherworldly story. The camera focuses mainly on sexy Ms. Sagemiller, who will make your knees weak. Bisexual Eliza Dushku (as Annabel) is another fantasy figure. And, the male-minded should love Wes Bentley (as Matt) and Casey Affleck (as Sean). The music by Daniel Licht and song selections are very good - a stroke of The Turtles' "You Showed Me" plays during the paint scene.****** Soul Survivors (9/6/01) Steve Carpenter ~ Melissa Sagemiller, Wes Bentley, Casey Affleck, Eliza Dushku
bxnikki420 This movie has a good idea that, minus a couple of scenes, would of made it a lot less complicated for some. My interpretation is a little different from the last one I read. Instead of the state that she was in being 2 different ones, I see it as she is in a state of death, where everyone is jealous that she is not yet completely dead(in a coma in real life). Luke Wilson, since he is a priest who has died, is the only sense of reason, and the only one not trying to keep her there, letting her make her own decision. Her boyfriend is alive, sitting next to her comatose body, talking to her, and she is imagining his actual body in her world, which is only his voice. I think what is confusing is that they showed her boyfriends funeral, which I think was shown by the writer, just to confuse, and make you think that she is still alive, trying to give you a sixth sense sort of plot twist.
lastliberal You may not be, but I certainly am thinking that I was going to get something extra with a R-rated "Killer Kut." When you make a PG-13 teenspoitation movie with the usual suspects (Melissa Sagemiller, Wes Bentley, Casey Affleck, Eliza Dushku, Luke Wilson) and put out a supposedly unrated or R version, you will not get anything more for your money. Stupid to think I would. I just got ripped by the makers of this trash.Yes, it does seem like a Carnival of Souls remake with some damn obnoxious music - a goth rave, for god's sake! It just seemed to go every which way and never made any sense. Needless to say, there wasn't much blood, and certainly nothing to make it R Rated.Be warned.
