Claysaba Excellent, Without a doubt!!
Tedfoldol everything you have heard about this movie is true.
Huievest Instead, you get a movie that's enjoyable enough, but leaves you feeling like it could have been much, much more.
thesar-2 I remember this song from my CD-building days of the 90s. It was a classic to me back then! And now, this minute, I'm listening to it for the first time in probably two decades. Such a trip. Love this song, well, the dance version, anyways.Whoa! I digress. This is a movie review about the adorable, cute, harmless and often humorous Sky High Disney flick. I had not seen this until just now, August 5, 2018, 13 years, 1 week late, but, truthfully, I always wanted to. With my fondness of Kurt Russell growing and my all-time love of Lynda Carter with the addition of the charming idea of the plot, this was one I regretted missing. Thankfully, a friend recommended it to me at work and lent me the DVD.It's been over a decade since I saw the original Incredibles from then Pixar, now Disney animated film, but this kinda reminds me of it: a mom and pop superhero duo send their superpowerless son to Sky High (School) and eventually he does late bloom. Well, he does that plus he picks up some stereotypical high school PG movie tropes along the way. This movie is purely innocent. It's not perfect, and it certainly does lack in the special effects department at times, but I couldn't help but be caught up in the purity and the heart. No one here was set on making a bad or clichéd film. Pretty much everyone, including those same extras I saw in every background scene, put their 100% into it. And let me tell you: I did find myself laughing out loud more than a few times and more so as the movie progressed and into the climax. It started with the wonderful references by the actors and their previous works, but then the laughs continued with their actions. I really did have a great time.I'm definitely a sucker for non-main stream superhero movies (AND I still need to see James Gunn/Rainn Wilson/Ellen Page's 'Super' movie) such as Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and Kick-Ass, but it was kinda nice seeing a PG, inoffensive, all-but TV pilot superhero film. It's definitely dated with the special effects and settings, but it's worth checking out and just letting your inner hero come out. Plus...there's always Wonder Woman, again!***Final thoughts: FROM the Newton Sky High edition I grew up and cherished in the 90s: Blown Round By The Wind Thrown Down In a SpinI Gave You Love I Thought That We Had Made It To The Top I Gave You All I Had To Give Why Did It Have To StopYou've Blown It All Sky High By Telling Me a Lie Without a Reason Why You've Blown It All Sky HighYou, You've Blown It All Sky High Our Love Had Wings To Fly We Could Have Touched The Sky You've Blown It All Sky High
Realrockerhalloween Skyhigh was a teeny bopper flick I originally wrote off when it first came out thinking it was a borefest. This sleepy hit managed to win me over by excellent performances, special effects and the message of the film about strength coming from within. Will is an everyday kid, with superheroes for parents, who is worried that the mutant gene has passed him over and won't be able to make it at Skyhigh. Those who can't lead follow behind as sidekicks and are considered second class citizens to the boss they are assignedI felt for Will and his friends who only wanted to impress their parents. I wanted his parents to believe and trust in their son to be a great man no matte what.Layla touched my heart as the girl next door secretly in love with her best friend trope. You could see the hurt in her eyes and the innocence she possessed. Her side plot with Warrren peace was cute and I actually rooted for them in the end to get together. Bruce Campbell gave a great tongue in check performance as the fun teacher responsible for the training of tomorrows leaders. He was robbed an Oscar that year. What makes it original is the format seems like a stop motion comic book come alive on the big screen with an awesome 80s soundtrack. The plot is predictable, what movie isn't since Greek times, but it has something for everyone suspense, heart, cute boys and girls for both sexes and content for parents to enjoy who watch it with their kids. Its a nice way to spend a quite afternoon by yourself.
SnoopyStyle Will Stronghold (Michael Angarano) is a regular teen except his parents are two of the greatest superheroes around; Steve Stronghold / The Commander (Kurt Russell) and Josie Stronghold / Jetstream (Kelly Preston). Along with kids of other superheroes, he starts Sky High except he doesn't seem to have a superpower. He's relegated to study being the sidekick with his lifelong friend Layla (Danielle Panabaker). He is embarrassed at his lack of power and sheepishly lies to his parents who have great expectations. Gwen Grayson (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) is the popular girl on campus. Student Warren Peace (Steven Strait) is angry with Will for The Commander putting Warren's father in prison. This is a harmless little family movie. It could have been edgier. There are a lot of high school drama being played out but the movie never really pushes it. It's strictly a Disney teen movie or a simplified John Hughes movie. With the cartoon color style, this is more silly than compelling. Although it's not silly enough to be actually funny. Angarano is fine but he doesn't really stand out. For the lead, he needs to be much more charismatic. The character can be nerdy but he needs to be a charismatic nerd. Panabaker is adorable enough for the puppy love story. Generally this is like a well-made movie on one of the those kids TV channels.
adi_2002 Will is getting ready for his first day of high school, his parents are super heroes who are fighting with giant robots to save the town and he is looking forward to arrive at his new school to discover what powers he has left from his father and mother as inheritance. Together with his friends he goes by bus but cannot walk up there so it turns into a plane that will take them there. Here he meets beautiful Gwen witch he will fall for her later. At a class each of those present have to show their powers in front of professor but surprisingly Will seem to possess no super-natural power when all his teammates have a hidden talent. So students are divided into two groups and Will be part of a group of people without any special skill. Falling prey to Gwen's charms he departs from Layla his best girl-friend since elementary school when not attending the meeting that they agreed because Gwen was at his home. All school learn the true identity of Gwen, who has a secret plan and Will after he discovers his powers will have to fight against her along with his friends to save the school and his parents. The film seems to be a kind of X-men or a modern Harry Potter pretty well done and it's a movie for all age categories.
