Karry Best movie of this year hands down!
Senteur As somebody who had not heard any of this before, it became a curious phenomenon to sit and watch a film and slowly have the realities begin to click into place.
Lidia Draper Great example of an old-fashioned, pure-at-heart escapist event movie that doesn't pretend to be anything that it's not and has boat loads of fun being its own ludicrous self.
Allison Davies The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.
blanche-2 Liam Neeson stars with Ed Harris, Joel Kinnaman, and Vincent D'Onofrio in "Run All Night" from 2015.Alcoholic ex-hit man Jimmy Conlon, known as Gravedigger, is estranged from his family but still in touch with his ex-boss and childhood friend, Sean Maguire (Harris). Jimmy's son Mike (Kinnaman) has a wife and two girls - he's a former boxer now working as a limo driver. One night he witnesses Sean's son Danny kill two drug dealers. Danny goes after him and manages to get him into his house, but Mike knocks him out; unfortunately he leaves his wallet behind.Jimmy arrives at his son's house, having heard about the drug deal gone wrong. Mike, of course, wants nothing to do with him. Mike goes outside for a smoke and sees Danny's car. He ultimately kills Danny. His best friend Sean then becomes his mortal enemy, determined to kill both Danny and Mike to take revenge for his son's death. Jimmy and Mike go on the run while Jimmy tries to figure out a way to bargain with either Sean or the detective (D'Onofrio) who's been after him for years so that he can protect his son and his son's family.Very exciting film, with nonstop action and also pathos as Jimmy faces the son he doesn't know and comes to terms with the end of his friendship with Sean - knowing it will result in the death of one or both of them. The acting is absolutely top-notch, with Neeson giving a wonderful performance as a sad, lonely drunk paying for his sins. The rest of the cast is fantastic and very believable.Highly recommended.
jtindahouse I had a hard time bringing myself to watch 'Run All Night'. I think a large part of the reason for that is that all Liam Neeson thrillers these days feel interchangeable. He plays basically the same character in them all and they all follow a pretty similar and formulaic story line. While I did enjoy 'Run All Night' for the most part, this did certainly hold true again. There isn't anything particularly unique about this film. It's just another solid, yet flawed, action/thriller starring Neeson. The action is the strongest part of this film. There are some good sequences throughout the movie, the stand-out being the early car chase with the cop car, where the usual roles are reversed. There is also an 'R' rating which helps improve the film in certain scenes. The violence is reasonably heavy throughout and this brings a good level of intensity to the film. The flaws though are plentiful. The role of 'Andrew Price' played by Common made no sense at all. He was brought in as a "professional killer" who is supposed to be the best at what he does. However, in every scene he's in he's absolutely terrible at what he does. You have to see the film to fully appreciate what I'm talking about, but it's unbelievably poor directing. Another problem lies in the fact that there are zero likable characters. Everyone in this film is highly flawed in almost every way and that makes it very hard to root for anyone. You're supposed to root for Neeson, simply because he's Liam Neeson, but anyone who stops and thinks about that for a moment will realise it doesn't make any sense to do so.I still managed to enjoy 'Run All Night' for the most part, but I fear it will be pretty forgettable. I would really like to see Neeson push himself if he's going to continue putting out these action/thrillers every year. Change his character and the formula of the story up a bit to keep it fresh. Until he does that, I'm going to have a hard time getting excited about any of them.
FlashCallahan Jimmy was a mob hit-man, who was best friends with his boss Sean Maguire. But when Jimmy's son, Michael, is marked for death by the mob, Jimmy must go up against Sean to protect Michael at all costs. Together, he and Michael must avoid corrupt cops, contract killers and the mob to survive the night, by having to......................Run All Night........In a major change of Role, Lesson plays a Hard Drinking, estranged from his family, hard man, who is trying to go straight, but something has happened, and he has to back to his old ways. The above description is something that Neeson has done for nearly eight years now, and although Taken was a pretty entertaining thriller, his agent and the studios are really milking his new action man persona for everything it's worth. Here it's the same old stuff, but adding Nolte and Harris into the mix tries to turn this pulpy action into some pseudo prolific thriller, but it doesn't work, it just ticks the obligatory boxes, and adds a table meeting every now and again with Neeson and Harris, to add a little 'class'.If your a fan of Neeson, you may also be getting slightly tired of him running around like a man half his age, shooting up the city, getting away with it, and building bridges with everyone he wronged in the past, including the cops, his son, and Nick Nolte, who should come with subtitles. It's not rubbish by any means, the cast are all okay, but we've seen it all before, and it really reminded me of State Of Grace, a far superior movie. And if you want the ending to be more powerful, skip the first two or three minutes, it ruins the film.
chris I settled on 'Run All Night' as a late night movie when I was pretty exhausted and not looking for something too complicated and it was absolutely perfect for it! Solid action, and a story line with reasonable depth make it an easy watch and the scenes between Liam Neeson and Ed Harris are seriously enjoyable. I thought Joel Kinnaman overdid his role slightly and as the movie progressed it did tend to slide towards the ridiculous, as many action movies do. Common, in particular, started out quite menacing but his final scenes were almost laughably predictable. The movie is all about action and entertainment - but there is a good story line underneath that gives it a little more weight than you might expect. Unfortunately it is pretty predictable, but worth a watch.
