Stevecorp Don't listen to the negative reviews
Usamah Harvey The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.
Nayan Gough A great movie, one of the best of this year. There was a bit of confusion at one point in the plot, but nothing serious.
Erica Derrick By the time the dramatic fireworks start popping off, each one feels earned.
OneEightNine Media This is perhaps the most satanic cartoon I have ever watched. I know what you're thinking right now, "this guy hasn't watched many made for adult cartoons or anime." No, I have seen plenty of crazy Japanese anime sh!t, Fritz the cat stuff, Pink Floyd's The Wall, Heavy Metal and a million other things I can not think of right now. The big difference between this and all those others is that Rock & Rule doesn't have to try. It simply doesn't have to try at all, and that is why I call this the most satanic, evil, dark or whatever cartoon or anime I have ever seen hands down. The villain is the source of all this madness. If you come across this little gem I highly recommended it if you want to trip off how in the heck did they let little kids watch this back in the days.
Irishchatter I have to say this is a really good film to watch. The music just sounds so refreshing, especially if it was from the 1980's! I thought Angel was absolutely sexy, she really is so smart and so caring. This is rare for me to find any cartoon character who just blows me away by their talent and personality! Debbie Henry and Susan Roman were great actresses to play as her! The character Omar who is merely the band leader, was good too but somewhat a little undeveloped. However, it wasn't that noticeable since he wasn't on enough scenes so that didn't make me put off the movie at all! I didn't like the look of Mok and not because hes designed to be "scary". It wasn't that actually, it just looked like bad scribbling from the artist who drew him. If they gave his face a more realistic look, then that would've been better. It's a good movie, love the songs and I really liked the action involved in it. Fans of animation who haven't seen it, need to watch it. It's really really good 8/10!
Criticman12 Nelvana, has been known for producing a lot of animated series such as, "6teen" and "My Dad the Rock Star". But back in 1983, they made an animated film that went on to become a cult-classic. That film was, "Rock and Rule".The story is about when a nuclear war started and the only species left were: Dog's, Cat's, and Rat's. One of the members in a band named, Angel, get's kidnapped by a ruthless rock star named, Mok. The rest of Angel's band follow Mok and try to get Angel back.Pros: The animation was really great. It has a nice post-apocalyptic feel to it. The music in the movie was also great and it features Cheap Trick, Lou Reed, and Iggy Pop. The story was pretty good.Con's: The character, Omar, was bland and boring.Overall, "Rock and Rule", is a great animated film with cool music. If you like, "Heavy Metal", you will like, "Rock and Rule".
bleedingmonky002 I have a tendency to go into video stores not really knowing what I'm looking for. when I saw "Rock and Rule" on the self, I was immediately drawn to the cultish feel this movie had to it, and when I finally got around to renting it, I was blown away.I have seen a lot of VERY good animated features (Akira, Totoro and the original 101 Dalmatians) but rock and rule has to be among the best. I know that a few people like to bash this movie, saying that the directing is inept, the characters aren't developed or the animation is dated. These people are probably the same people who hate Napoleon Dynamite just to be rebels. In order to really appreciate Rock and Rule, you have to think about the time it was made in, and then you will realize just how groundbreaking it really was.the animation is superb, period. nelvana (the producers) nearly went bankrupt when they made this movie, and you can clearly see why. some of the first usage of CGI in animated film is used in RR, and it is generally extremely high quality for an eighties flick. Oh, and lets not forget about Mok. Mok, a parody of Mick Jagger, has to be one of the best cinematic villains of all time. From his incredibly expressive lips (JAGGER!) to the excellent voice acting provided by Don Francks, he is mesmerizing to behold, and basically sells the film on his own.All in all, the story is excellent, the songs are incredible and the animation is an example of the best of its period. If you ever hope to be an animation buff, or cult buff, you have to see this movie. it simply isn't an option.
