Console best movie i've ever seen.
Zandra The movie turns out to be a little better than the average. Starting from a romantic formula often seen in the cinema, it ends in the most predictable (and somewhat bland) way.
Philippa All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.
Marva It is an exhilarating, distressing, funny and profound film, with one of the more memorable film scores in years,
The Movie Diorama Whilst not as good as 'Degeneration', this second instalment in the animated series remains true to the source material and is able to capture the gritty dark environment that the video game franchise is famous for. Leon infiltrates a former soviet state to investigate a rumour that its president is releasing Bio Organic Weapons (BOWs) in their civil war. Immediately the personality from the likes of Leon Kennedy and Ada Wong are replicated to precision. His masculine heroic traits ooze through the screen and Wong remains enigmatically mysterious. The story was linear much like the video games yet embedded within are various exciting scenes that replicate the aesthetic appeal of its source material. Consistently switching between first person perspective, still corner shots and other cinematic directing styles that prevents this from simply being a long cutscene. It feels like a film, incorporating the differing camera techniques that imitate the various games, creates a true incarnation. A myriad of familiar enemies and plot points, such as Las Plagas, Lickers and Tyrants, will appeal to the fans of the games whilst remaining accessible to newcomers. Plus, the female president isn't just used as an antagonistic puppeteer, she actually has her own combat scenes! Film is complete. Voice acting was functional although occasionally monotonous and some of the character facial expressions feel like blank canvas'. The narrative follows a familiar structure to 'Degeneration' which comes across as uninspired, especially the final boss fight which looks incredibly polygonal given the outstanding CG motion effects throughout. The supporting characters, such as JD, could've used some more development to enhance that emotional investment. However, it's an adventurous exciting zombie flick that sits well as a prequel to 'Resident Evil 6', despite its basic execution and familiarity. Lastly, let's just appreciate Leon's incredibly silky hair and how it sways in the gentle breeze...
tripper-09331 As far as CGI and video game movies go this was the best one I've ever seen! The animation was really well done and that's saying something since this review is being written in 2017 for a CGI movie made 5 years ago.The animation is very realistic (compared to other RE CGI movie that are more cartoonish). The plot is actually very engaging too! What impressed me the most is the intelligence of the characters. Even the faceless "fodder" bad guys were smart. They would communicate with each other and actually make smart decisions to try and stay alive. As a result when they died it felt more intense as they would die in a way that really seemed like there was no way to avoid death. I also had a few moments with legitimate jump scares which no CGI movie has ever been able to successfully achieve on me in the past.If you have played Resident Evil 4 you will be able to appreciate a few easter eggs related to that game. Like when Ada comments about the last time she saw Leon (which was during RE 4). However, there is nothing in the plot of this movie that requires you to have played any of the games or watched any of the CGI or live action movies. Everything you need to know for the sake of the movie is explained to you. There was also lots of action and a respectable amount of gore. Not on the level of a SAW movie but enough to feel the impact of it. I had paused the movie a few times just to admire the detail of how bad guys would be blow up or torn apart. There was also (surprisingly) a few adult sections with revealing cleavage that helped show the maturity of the film. For whatever cheesy parts that happen in the movie (inherit of any video game CGI movie) it is completely forgivable as it is greatly overshadowed by the entirety of the movie. This isn't a movie that you will spend days thinking about but it is a movie you will not regret watching. Definitely a good movie to watch at night or on a weekend.
alexfromhorn This movie definitely feels like a Resident Evil title to a fan of the game series which is good for all RE players, so most of us will like this movie definitely not like those Mila Yovovych movies... The story is interesting with some small twists, the political aspects even make it nicer. The action which is very well and interestingly performed (or directed) and can actually surprise you in a good way, not like most of those new Hollywood action movies that seem to get more and more boring... Leon S. Kennedy is again the protagonist of this movie, I would choose a different guy this time but they managed to portrait him well in this animated movie, but not as good as in RE: Degeneration. The side-characters were not well enough developed and they lacked a bit in background story and ambitions. I really liked the president of this "Eastern Slav Republic", she was hot, she was well development and simply an intriguing character. Compared to RE: Degeneration this movie felt a bit weaker because I think the dramaturgy didn't go that well and too many things were left unclear which is really sad - maybe some of the games give an explanation, but that certainly doesn't make this movie better. A really interesting thing is how this story actually kinda foresaw the Ukraine/Krim-Crisis in a very abstracted way, because this movie was released a short while before stuff started to go wild over there... even the president kinda reminds heavily of the general-secretary of the Krim Republic (and internet-star) Natalja Poklonskaja which is an (almost?) prophetic coincidence. In a short sentence: Watch it if you like RE, watch if you want to see some good action stuff.
meritcoba The fun part about animations is that you can do things which are almost impossible to do in real life or perhaps very expensive to pull off. The charm is, to steal a catchphrase, to be better than life, which is what animations can offer you. Remember Wile Coyote running of a cliff, continuing for a short while over nothing but air, looking down, realizing there is nothing holding him up, gravity asserting itself and then him dropping down to the ground making a landing that would have killed anyone but a cartoon character? Perhaps you do.Damnation is mostly interesting because it shows that the gap between real and animated is getting smaller. Although by the time of this review the animations of this movie will probably have aged. This being said the gap is still there and probably will be there for some time to come as the animations are still wooden when it matters, especially when a closeup is made of the face which ought to express a subtle emotion, but which comes over as awkward, stiff and off queue. The movie is set in east-European state plagued by civil war, where the losing side, the rebels, try to stave off defeat by deploying bio engineered weapons which can be bought a plenty on the black market according to Ada Wong, one of the characters in the movie. Enter our hero Leon who is send there by the US government to investigate, but it doesn't really matter for he goes rogue the moment the movie starts as the US has decided to pull out, and Leon begs to differ because he is right.Rogue heroes ultimately always are in these movies. The movie then proceeds along a well traveled path where one moves from one overused 'set' to the next one. An underground garage, an abandoned house, underground tunnels and a church. There has got to be a church. No doubt we also will eventually run into an underground lab or whatever, but I can't tell you as I stopped the movie when the lady president started to do karate with Ada Wong, when she discovered that Ada was not who she claimed to be.All in all it is an interesting exercise in animating which ultimately finds it demise in the under par story telling that is so typical for games and resident evil movies alike. All the characters are just stereotypical to the point of being dead boring. The main character Leon, for instance, has no personality to speak off, which is okay if you played him as a game character, but as a movie character you might want to see more. Of course, if your characters are dead dull, you can make amends by throwing some action or shocks at the viewer, but in this the movie under delivers as well. Most of the scenes are actually Leon travelling to a place or fleeing from a place or speaking to characters. The action sequences are far and in between and hampered by a bit too much manga style fighting, but just not enough of it to go full manga style. There are some shocks.. but nothing an average viewer will go hiding under the table about. All in the all Damnation feels very much like these those game movies people make by using gluing cut scenes together. Only now with the action sequences and traveling scenes added. Which thus begs the question: why the heck did they make a movie with a script meant for a game? And even more: why did they think the would get away with it?For you the question if you want to waste your time watching a game while you can is actually play one.
