Platicsco Good story, Not enough for a whole film
Taraparain Tells a fascinating and unsettling true story, and does so well, without pretending to have all the answers.
Sam Fonseca Pain and gain is the true story of Daniel Lugo, portrayed by Mark Wahlberg, a likable criminal with genius plan to get rich with his two partners in crime, which horribly backfires. His two accomplices are Paul Doyle, Played by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, and Adrian Doorbal, who is played by Anthony Mackie. This film is a true classic crime, drama with bits of comedy. Pain & Gain was directed by Michael Bay, which you may categorise him as someone who makes bad movies such as Transformers which contained an overhaul of explosions and special effects, who changes his stance on films completely with a crime comedy, with little special effects and explosions. When I first went to watch the film I judged it all wrong. I thought it would be another comedy that wasn't funny and a waste of time. But convinced by my friends to watch it, I can safely say it was worth every penny. I think the best part of the film was the phenomenal acting by Mark Wahlberg, Dwayne Johnson & Anthony Mackie. Portraying the characters amazingly. It felt like I was watching the real thing. Dwayne Johnson fits the role Of Paul Doyle perfectly, who is a body builder but a very religious man with a good conscience. Michael bay did a really superb jobs in the casting. The only criticism of the film is that it has a very slow build to the action and the drama. But it's a needed build with the films, so when watching remember to patient and accept the long but great build. The main point of the film was to re-enact the true events but to keep the audience entertained, as well as get a few laughs on the way. A film that truly won't disappoint. My overall rating of the film is 9 stars out of 10. Only because I felt all the build was not need some of it was there for no reason, and could have been a shorter film and could have kept the audience entertained for the whole film.
slomianyc This was a fun dark movie. In the tradition of well organized crime movies, this took a great approach of a bunch of meat heads that just could not do anything right. I enjoyed this movie and find myself watching it again and again picking up things. From Lugo using an accent when they capture Kershaw telling him immigrants like him are the problem with this country to Lugo just being a typical meat head about everything. "I had to live in a tree with no food and water", ha! "What's your name?" "Tom Lawn" while he is mowing the grass. Even if the movie is not completely accurate of what happened, I love movie. It was like the three stooges meets Goodfellas.
Ole Sandbaek Joergensen Okay it is not the best story, and I think they have pimped up the version just a tad and then again drugs can make you do crazy things... I guess.Well I liked it, I was very much entertained, especially the characters are very funny. Wahlberg plays Daniel Lugo and he seems to be a fairly okay guy, not that bright, but clearly the best of the three guys. Dwayne has a more peaceful character, but is very gullible and does have that much to route around with in the skull of his either. Mackie plays Adrian Doorbal and he is the follower, not bright either, but what Daniel Lugo does so does Adrian Doorbal. This is a new path for Michael Bay and for a film that is so much different from what I have seen from him, he does a great job in my opinion. For me the attitude, the colors, the clothes, the music, everything just sets a good mood and hit the nineties, it is awesome.
Ben Davis Well I saw "Michael Bay's most thought-provoking film to date" in the Rotten Tomatoes critic consensus, so I thought, "maybe he actually made a good movie for once". Oh how dreadfully naive and silly I was. This is movie is awful. Absolutely awful. In this film, we see Sir Michael Bay attempt to tackle the dark comedy genre while seemingly having no knowledge about what makes these types of movies good. The characters in your movie have to commit despicable acts while still remaining likable. Characters in Tarantino movies come to mind. Jules Winnfeld, Vincent Vega, Mr. Blonde, Django, etc. Michael Bay got the despicable acts down, but he forgot to make the characters likable in any way. I hated every single one of them. I wanted them all to go to jail. Never once did I want them to succeed. You cannot make dark comedy work with terrible characters doing terrible things, thus making this film doomed from the start. Every time something is played for comedy, you cringe at just how bad it is. Not having good characters for this ruins your film. When they finally do get caught, I was cheering. That should never ever happen in a movie like this. This would probably end up on a list of my least favorite movies ever. Stay very far away.
