Reviews

CrawlerChunky In truth, there is barely enough story here to make a film.
Hayden Kane There is, somehow, an interesting story here, as well as some good acting. There are also some good scenes
Jonah Abbott There's no way I can possibly love it entirely but I just think its ridiculously bad, but enjoyable at the same time.
Guillelmina The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.
masterblaster1975 MI5 discovers a political scandal in Britain. As the boss of MI5 dies (natural causes), everybody involved tries to cover his ass. Furthermore, a girl tries to learn the truth about her brothers killing by Israelis. Bill Nighy is perfect as cool old dog. The kiss was unnecessary and implausible.
jlschuck-495-289107 I watch a lot of spy movies and this one for me was a total waste of time. Other reviewers rave about the "clever" plot. Oh well, I guess one viewer's "clever" is another viewer's "cliche". It was full of droll, rehashed, dialogue that never seemed to end or go anywhere. I felt like I was watching a Noam Chomsky lecture instead of a movie. I felt sorry for the actors. They did a good job making this story about nothing bearable at least. There was no surprise ending for me. Spoiler Alert: It ended similar to every British spy movie that has been made in the last 30 years -self-flagellating subplot that exposes the writer's contempt for all things western, and a rogue spy who stays loyal to his higher principles, speaks truth to power, falls in love with a beautiful girl, and wins the day. It's more of spy fantasy movie for "intellectuals" going through midlife crisis. One reviewer says the plot was so compelling the movie didn't need any shoot outs or car chases. I don't know, if you can't be as clever or as realistic as LeCarre, maybe a little of violence or sex would have given the viewer some relief from the boring story line.
bjarias Take two twelve bottle cases of wine and stack one on top of the other.. then try carrying them both in one arm, while you're carrying something else in the other.. oh yea, and make it look totally easy, like there was nothing inside the two boxes.. (cause obviously there wasn't)!! And that's only one example of just how absurd parts two and three of this trilogy eventually become. Page Eight was really good enough (gorgeous RW), and I was so looking forward to the other two segments. But it was like night and day.. as if part one was made in Britain, and two and three in the US. The 7 rating is for part one.. two and three deserve no more than a 5.. and that's being overly generous.
Mike Fitzgerald This movie is fun, well-paced, slickly produced, and well-acted...and then the final act happens, and I found myself sputtering for the complete collapse of all involved character's respective motivations, integrity, and believability - someone involved in decision making decided that the movie needed a dopey, unconvincing romantic finish, and decided to completely reject all the character development, plot and, frankly, interesting things that had occurred up until that point, so as to meet it. This was recommended to me by someone who knew my deep appreciation for Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, and I think that recommendation was appropriate until about fifteen minutes before the curtain closed. Just a total disaster.Love the cast, love the feel - but completely disappointing, from an ultimately confused offering.
