Evengyny Thanks for the memories!
Actuakers One of my all time favorites.
ShangLuda Admirable film.
Zandra The movie turns out to be a little better than the average. Starting from a romantic formula often seen in the cinema, it ends in the most predictable (and somewhat bland) way.
Jackson Booth-Millard Imagine a cross between Ghost and My Best Friend's Wedding or a similar film, and that is pretty much how you could sum up this film, one which I saw clips of and thought it may be relatively amusing, but I also saw the mostly negative reviews for it, so I had to see what I would think. Basically Kate (Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria) and Henry (Paul Rudd) are happy and preparing to get married, but an accident occurs involving the ice sculptor (Stephen Root) who is drunk, and Kate ends up being crushed by the ice sculpture of an angel (without wings), and arriving in Purgatory she wastes her time arguing with an Angel (Kali Rocha) who does not have wings, and she misses whatever she must do to move on. A year passes, and Henry is advised by his sister Chloe (Lindsay Sloane) to find closure by opening up to and consulting with psychic Ashley (Lake Bell), who with her gay best friend Dan (Jason Biggs) also runs a catering business, their first meeting is unsuccessful, so Chloe gives Ashley Kate's diary so she can pretend to communicate with her spirit and help him move on. During their time Henry and Ashley find themselves falling in love with each other, unaware that the ghost of Kate has returned to the world and is watching, and Ashley finds she truly has the psychic ability as she can see and hear her, and obviously she is not happy that she is with the man she was going to marry. Kate is still unsure of why she is on earth, and she finds out that the ice sculptor is dead as well, and he tells her that she has unfinished business, and she thinks that she needs to protect Henry from something, so she does everything she can, for her personal pride as well, to keep Ashley away from the man who would of married her. She uses many of her newfound ghostly abilities to stop Henry and Ashley getting together, such as walking through walls, levitation and moving objects, all to make the new couple break up, she does this while they are dating and even attempting to have sex for the first time, while Ashley tries things to get rid of her, such as exorcism. It seems though that they do break up when Henry finds that Ashley borrowed Kate's diary from Chloe, so he thinks that she has been fake all the time, and when she turns to Dan for some comfort he finally reveals that he is not and has never been gay since they met, he just kept up the act with her thinking it, he has loved her ages. Kate watches Henry fall into a deep depression and feels guilty, and encountering the ice sculptor again she realises she wants him to be happy, the ice sculptor moves on because his unfinished business was to help her see the right thing to do, and she does. She goes to tell Ashley that she should be with Henry, but she does not believe she is being truthful and is planning to leave with Dan to Las Vegas, but using the talking pet parrot to talk to her would-be husband she convinces him to get her at the airport, they reconcile and Kate gives them her blessing to be together. The film ends with Ashley briefly talking to Kate and assuring her that she will make Henry very happy, the couple happily married, Dan and Chloe become close as well, and though Kate is somewhat dismayed that it was not her getting married, she knows it is right and is ready to move on, but the Angel is still reluctant to let her into Heaven. Also starring Lindsay Sloane as Chloe, Wendi McLendon-Covey as Lona, Ali Hillis as Karen and William Morgan Sheppard as Father Marks. Longoria is alright as the bitchy dead woman trying to spoil things, Bell is okay as the girlfriend trying to have a relationship in peace, Rudd is likable enough as the guy in the middle, and Biggs gets his moments as the kook, unfortunately the script is lazy and full of clichés, it is not paced the right way, the attempts at laughs with crudeness and slapstick does not work well, and it just feels too mushy and predictable, a silly romantic comedy fantasy. Pretty poor!
youngsteve You know you are in trouble watching a comedy, when the only amusing parts in it are from the Animal cast. It is a pity then that the parrot, Cat & Dog were only in support & not the other way around, as the humans in it were pretty abysmal throughout. If I were you, Paul, Eva, Lake (what sort of name is that), Jason, & Lindsay, I would forget this acting lark & do something else, as all of you are as funny as watching paint dry, & awful actors to boot. The main gag in the film is one of the characters shouting, me not Gay, which is funny as if you weren't, you might change your mind if you had to put up with the three bossy, tedious & dare I say very plain women leads in the film. The worst film I have seen in years, & hopefully never see one as bad again, though I expect not.
The_Duke_of_Dunstable I wasn't overly impressed by this movie, mostly because of the script. Hollywood is not very imaginative when it comes to think outside the box, thus all films follow the magic and boring formula of "a beginning, a middle and an end". And when Hollywood decides to go wild and add something else to that concept, it usually ends up spoiling the movie. They did it in this flick. I'm not about to reveal anything but it has to do with Jason Biggs character.Still, the movie has it's moments. All ghost movies has that in common that there comes a time when a medium or similar relates what the ghost is saying to a loved one who can't see it. We saw it done better in "Ghost" with Demi More, Patrick Swayze and Whoopi Goldberg, and more recently in much funnier movie "Ghosttown", with Ricky Gervais. This movie has that scene too, but the disappointing script passes over it too quickly and with not much result for the plot. The highlight of the movie is the acting of two leads; Paul Rudd and the surprisingly funny Lake Bell.I've long had a growing admiration for Rudd, who has developed a style similar to that of Chevy Chase at his best. If ever a serious production of sequels to the Fletch movies gets a green light, the casting agent would do wisely in considering Rudd.Lake Bell is rather new to me, and I was severely impressed by her comedy talent. She could easily be pictured in over-the-top comedy things and take on a female lead over Jim Carreys character in "Dumb & dumber" or Ben Stillers in "There's something about Mary". The Farrelly brothers could have a new star in her.In conclusion, this film was watchable. "Ghosttown" is a better movie in all considerations, but Rudd and Bell are a joy.
craftercool Actually my vote is a 7.5. Anyway, the movie was good, it has those funny parts that make it deserve to see it, don't misunderstand me, is not the funniest movie of the world, and its not even original because its a idea that we have seen before in other movies, but this one has its own taste, a friend of mine told me that this was a film for boyfriends... I think that not exactly but who cares? Also there is another movie that show us almost the same topic, Chris Rock appears in it, the name is Down to Earth, men, that one its a very funny movie, see both if you want and I know that you will agree that Mr. Rock won with his movie. I would liked that the protagonist male character were given to Ashton Kutcher, however, the film is good.
