Comwayon A Disappointing Continuation
Murphy Howard I enjoyed watching this film and would recommend other to give it a try , (as I am) but this movie, although enjoyable to watch due to the better than average acting fails to add anything new to its storyline that is all too familiar to these types of movies.
Kaydan Christian A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.
Taha Avalos The best films of this genre always show a path and provide a takeaway for being a better person.
timlloyd-55665 I think Out works best if you remember Peter Coyote is a Zen Buddhist. Out has a playful, crazy Zen quality to it. You can take the film seriously as an art movie, or watch with friends an a few beers and take it as a joke. I like it a lot because it refuses to make sense for even a second. I'd put this in the same category as Eraserhead by Lynch or El Toppo by Jaderowsky. It's refreshing that some of the scenes are obviously improvised, so the dialogue is never dull. The fragmented nature of the piece means it's surprisingly fast paced. Usually you would see Glover and Coyote in bigger pictures so it's interesting to see them play around. Other reviewers feel ripped of by the packaging. Personally I felt pleasantly surprised by an unusual movie.
otherem101 Incredible film... funny, clever, challenging. Even though the film was made in the 80's, I found it relevant to our time. The acting is superb... some of the best I have seen from Peter Coyote and Danny Glover. The rest of the cast is amazing. One should watch this film more than once, as the first time, it may seem baffling, but when you see it more than once, it makes sense in a deep way. It's obvious that this film was a labor of love and commitment. I much prefer the title "Out" to "Deadly Drifter" (which, I understand, was not the original name -- "Out" was).If you enjoy a film that makes you, the viewer, work a bit, then this is one of these films. Don't be put off by other people's remarks. The work that you put into it is worth it -- I highly recommend it!!!
Dire Wolf Would be interesting to know if Peter Coyote and Ronald Sukenick were old friends. I'm wondering if Peter assisted Ronald in writing it. The movie contains many elements similar to what Peter experienced during his days in the 60's. To understand, read "Sleeping Where I Fall". How many movies/writers has Peter influenced and inspired to write of his, and others personal experiences from the 60's. Sometimes I wonder if Peter is trying to tell us something which he is unable to openly acknowledge. Is Peter telling us in a "code" what happened back then and that someday it will all come to light? Someday, maybe after his death, a manuscript will surface telling us what it was he was saying. The basic theme of being directed by a mysterious entity to commit acts reminds me of the Manson family. Peter, who was your Charlie? I think the movie is a cult classic. A brief glimpse into what many experienced in the 60's. Magic, wonder and a profound peek into the depth of being.
Ckrisis Some people would call this one of those deep movies that you have to sit and actually watch to understand the plot.I'm the type of guy that always understands the plot but this one was a mind twister. It made no sense at all.The movie was about a group of people in 10 different stories holding dynamite, saying "your it" and rambling on about some "old man".O yes they also spelled out special words by eating alphabet soup and then eating them to understand the words and they could also read each others minds. If you didn't understand a thing I just said thats because the movie doesn't make sense and exactly what I said is in this movie. It is kind of funny though because of the confusion of the movie and hilarious acting. If your bored, watch it.
