creativityreborn94 I was absolutely floored by this film at every angle. The direction, the score, the sound engineering, the editing my GOD. An hour and a half-long heart attack about the anxiety of missing out, the burden of responsibility and the beastial depths to which the pressures of capitalism push the fantasies of people. Whereas the Crank films achieve their effect through a barrage of explicit imagery, Mom And Dad excels at delaying those gratifying moments by playing off the fact that you *know* its gonna get violent but you have no idea when or where. Absolute brilliance.
august-eighty Easy synopsis - a strange mania has taken over the land, making parents want to murder their children. Gory as hell, funny as hell, will be a cult classic.Easy way to explain the film - picture a zombie epidemic, but instead of zombies it's parents overcome by a virus (or something) that makes them turn on their kids and hunt them down to murder them. Movie is played as a dark comedy, and it has some fantastic scenes.Cage is way over the top and it works perfectly for the film.Recommend to watch this with friends while drunk. Tons of fun, non stop gore and carnage.
jtindahouse I had been really looking forward to seeing 'Mom and Dad' for quite a while now. It sounded like my kind of movie and I'm still a big fan of Nicolas Cage, even since his career has admittedly dipped off. I wasn't quite expecting what I got from 'Mom and Dad' though. I think I had expected it to lean more towards being a horror movie than anything, not in your traditional sense perhaps, but in terms of suspense and possibly gore. Instead it plays out more like an action movie I would suggest. Did I like it as much as I hoped to? I would probably say no to that, but it had its positive aspects. The film never really explains itself and I didn't love that. I'm assuming they just couldn't come up with a viable reason for this to be happening and so left it out entirely. I suppose that's fair enough but it does come across a touch lazy. I also thought they could have played it out to be a little bit more fun. They got creative in certain scenes, but not in particularly fun ways. This also felt like a missed opportunity. One of the big positives of the film were the flashback scenes. One scene in particular involving a pool table is undoubtedly the strongest in the film. Cage gives it everything he has in this scene and absolutely nails it. It was good to see Cage really putting forward a committed performance and not phoning it in. I also like that the film is nice and short and doesn't outstay its welcome. Plus there is a twist near the end that did have a lot of fun about it (as I mentioned earlier was too often missing). More of that kind of thing in the film and it would have worked a lot better. This isn't a film to rush out and see, but if you find yourself with an opportunity to watch it give it a shot.
