Stevieboy666 A blind Vietnam veteran takes on werewolves that are terrorizing a retirement community, to which he has just moved. Nick Damici was very good in the lead role but I couldn't help but wonder what Clint Eastwood or Charles Bronson would have been like too. As much a drama as a horror, a lot of the film focuses on relationships, in particular between father & son. This, coupled with a long middle section that is horror-less, may not appeal to all horror fans but I liked the fact that it certainly is not a typical werewolf flick. Acting is generally good. As for the creatures, well there's a reasonable transformation scene but the werewolves themselves reminded me of the lesser Howling efforts.
pesic-1 This film has a slight comedic flavour, inasmuch as it steals from the famous 'Bubba Ho-Tep'. In that movie the residents of the rest home have to fight off a mummy. Here, it's a werewolf. They also stole the two geeky drivers who visit the rest home on a regular basis and hate their job as well as the old people. The problem is that this film is not funny, and it doesn't really try to be, so I don't understand why it flirts with this tongue-in-cheek semi-humorous stuff. On a positive note, the film has a couple of decent scary moments. But it is also poorly written. For instance, the main character switches between being nice to his new neighbors and treating them with psychotic contempt for no reason whatsoever. Then, after the werewolf attack, in which half the house is demolished and an entire wall is torn down, the police seem to think an animal did that. What animal is that? An elephant? Bigfoot? Not even bears tear down walls. And then they tell the people to lock their doors and close the windows at night. Again, the thing literally walked through the wall. Will a closed window in any way impede it? Watch this film if you have nothing better to do, but don't expect much. Do some housework during the moronic dialogue scenes and come back when you hear that action is about to start. Don't expect much, though. This is some cheap action. As far as I'm concerned, this is another wasted opportunity, and I am offended by the lack of respect the filmmakers have for their audiences. Nobody is stupid enough to write that drivel. They knew they were writing drivel and they didn't care. Well, right back at you. One star.
siderite I was expecting an indie horror movie with some low budget issues, but maybe something entertaining amidst the crap. What I got was a well acted, well done movie, using an original story and that was damn entertaining.Nick Damici is great as the blind veteran that has to battle werewolves in a old people retirement area. The script has some minor issues, mainly with the lack of involvement of the local authorities, but other than that, the story is spot on. Werewolves appear after 15 minutes into the story, the characters are complex, the hero both obnoxious and impossible not to like, the ending is epic.I don't understand people that rate something 4 or 5 out of 10 because it doesn't have superheroes or billions in budget. Do they understand that is it movie quality they have to rate? After being completely blown away by the movie I looked up Eric Stolze (who is NOT Eric Stoltz :) ) and saw that he also did Under the Bed, another really underrated original horror. I can't wait to see what he comes up with next.Bottom line: you are missing out if you like horror movies and originality and you don't watch this.
LeonLouisRicci This Werewolf Movie Can Not Run in the Same Pack as American Werewolf in London (1981), Ginger Snaps (2000), or Dog Soldiers (2002), but it Does Owe its Pedigree to These More Memorable Films. It has a Transformation Scene Similar to American, the Snappy Humor of Ginger, and the Tall Lycanthropes of Dog. Still, This Low-Budget Winner is Not Without its Charm. Nick Damici's Completely Engaging Blind Senior Citizen and Some Other Good Performances Help the Mediocre Costuming of the Wolves Disappointment Rise to an Above Average and Respectable Genre Inclusion. Most of the Action is in the First and Third Acts and Deliver Enough Gore and Suspense to Impress, but it is the Different and Surprising Act Two, with its Impressive Script and Dialog About an Old Folks Gated Community Giving the Film its Special Status as an Imaginative and Entertaining Horror.
