Matialth Good concept, poorly executed.
CommentsXp Best movie ever!
Odelecol Pretty good movie overall. First half was nothing special but it got better as it went along.
Calum Hutton It's a good bad... and worth a popcorn matinée. While it's easy to lament what could have been...
BrickNash In the movies there is good nonsense and bad nonsense. Lara Croft: Tomb Raider is 100% good nonsense! It won't win any awards or bowl you over with textured and deep themes or performances, but what it will provide you with is a good looking well made slice of pure fun!Angeline Jolie is wonderfully likeable as Lara, plus her English accent is flawless which further endears you to her. Red Dwarf's Chris Barrie pops up as Lara's butler and the two have genuine chemistry together when they are on screen. The film is very well directed by Simon West and it has a very polished sheen to it all plus the pacing is spot on, which for a game adaptation is rarer than hen's teeth.Smashing good fun which is surprisingly well made and well performed too.Highly recommended for a boozy Saturday in or a lazy Sunday on the couch.
jacobroz This is truly one of the worst movies i ever seen in my life. the plot was stupid and incompetent. i know that one of the main reasons that people liked this movie was due to her performance. i found it abysmal. her supposed 'English' accent roamed from Australian to South African and her dialogue was cheap and superficial. the plot of the movie was incredibly predictable and unrewarding for the viewer. the overuse of cgi circa early 2000s did not hold up at all and was laughable. however, whilst one may argue that this would benefit one's viewing experience, the poor quality just becomes bad after 30minutes or so as the film's poor quality becomes unavoidable. Do not watch under any means. This is a bad, bad, bad film
justin-fencsak In the beginning there was Super Mario Bros. Then came Street Fighter. After that, Mortal Kombat and its sequel. Then came Wing Commander, and all hope was lost. In 2001, two major brands which would soon go under the Square Enix banner dominated the summer box office with different results. One, Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, wasn't based on a video game and was an original story with amazing CGI yet it failed at the box office and forced Square to exit the movie business for awhile. The other, a movie based on a best selling video game franchise starring a rising Angelina Jolie that would go on to be the most profitable video game movie of its decade, earning more than its sequel, the Cradle of Life, and would rekindle interest in the games, forcing a reboot of the same name to critical acclaim and an upcoming new version of said story coming out in march of next year. That movie, of course, is Lara Croft: Tomb Raider. This movie has it all, guns, boobs, action, humor reminiscent of indiana jones, and a killer soundtrack. I first saw it in the theaters having not beaten any of those games and was amazed by how well done they did this movie even though there have been failed attempts to bring classic video game movies to life (i'm looking at you warcraft!!!).
Marla Haasz I simply can't take any review seriously that takes the two existing Lara Croft films seriously. Tomb Raider and The Cradle of Life are my favourite guilty pleasure films of all time. They don't deserve to be called "so bad it's good", because they are NOT bad. Ridiculous? Yes. Nonsensical? Yes. Bad? Far from it! They are entertaining blockbusters that exist to put all other video-game to movie adaptations to-shame (I mean, there's not much in terms of competition, but still… TO-SHAME).I am totally biased though, Lara Croft was the first female character I was exposed to that I could finally relate to. I was nine when I first saw Tomb Raider and The Cradle of Life in one sitting after having a furious marathon of the games on my PC, PS1 and PS2 (the only reason I begged my parents for a PC in the first place was so I could play Tomb Raider, all the cool girls in school were playing Tomb Raider. They should see me now, I too, am a cool girl). But back to Lara Croft in film; seeing her come to life (wake me up) was utterly magical. I couldn't imagine a more perfect actress to play the Croft than early 00's Angelina Jolie.I feel like people want to trash this movie so bad because they can't quite understand why they enjoy this movie so much given all of its plot holes and over the top stunts. I say; don't be afraid, be free, learn to love, give in to your temptations and admit that the Lara Croft films are spectacularly ridiculous."Did I enjoy the movie? Yes. Is it up there with the Indiana Jones pictures? Was I filled with suspense? No. Since I had no idea what was going to happen, should happen, shouldn't happen or what it meant if it did happen, I could hardly be expected to care. But did I grin with delight at the absurdity it all? You betcha." – Roger Ebert
