TrueHello Fun premise, good actors, bad writing. This film seemed to have potential at the beginning but it quickly devolves into a trite action film. Ultimately it's very boring.

Ginger Very good movie overall, highly recommended. Most of the negative reviews don't have any merit and are all pollitically based. Give this movie a chance at least, and it might give you a different perspective.

Noeleen Intermission is one of those modern multiple story line films in which a group of characters lives intertwine and their convoluted journeys in the search for some kind of love. When the desperately insecure and emotionally inarticulate John breaks up with Deirdre to 'give her a little test' his plan backfires leaving her broken-hearted and him alone and miserable. Through chance and coincidence, their break-up triggers a roller coaster ride of interweaving escapades in the lives of everyone around them. Intermission presents a slice of life, the passage between breaking up and making up, exploring how our lives intersect, and the power we all possess to affect the lives of those around us Small town delinquents. So what does Intermission have to offer that these films do not? For one, the acting talent involved is pretty much a who's who of Irish (and Scottish) actors at present. Colin Farrell, Cillian Murphy, Colm Meaney, Shirley Henderson and Kelly Macdonald. The other main factor in the quality of Intermission lies in it's script, which comes across as funny, engaging and despite the comparisons made above is fairly original. It is most definitely a lighter affair than some of it's contemporary rivals listed above, and though not groundbreaking by any means, is a well-made and engaging piece of work There is an extra scene during the credits showing Noeleen and Sam, who have presumably gotten back together. Noeleen is pestering Sam about changing the TV channel, and her nagging manner may give a hint why Sam left her in the first place Colin Farrell performs "I Fought The Law" over the end credits . People get blinding glimpses into real nature of their lives and can see they been stuck in a rut for years just going through the motions sometimes they see with equal clarity that they are free to take charge and sometimes it just too late

The producer of a small news segment about the people, Ben(O'Suilleabhain, toying with that edge) wants to do a show on cop and self-proclaimed hardass Jerry(Meaney, determined and volatile), who is harassing small-timer Lehiff(Farrell, playing to his strength as a charming bad boy), who thinks of a bigger scheme. He will need people for it, so he approaches bus driver Mick(O'Byrne, kind but needing money for the missus, or, more appropriately, her plans for new floors, a shed, and...), whose friend John(Murphy, nice but keeps his feelings bottled up) misses his ex Deirdre(MacDonald, sweet) who, get this, has already gotten together with Sam(McElhatton, defensive) who left his wife of 14 years for her, understandably making her a bit upset.Thus this weaves the people and story lines in with one another, often letting us spend just a little time with one situation, allowing it to be, as the film is, fairly fast-paced, effective in its establishing and developing of characters, plot and the dark, quirky and harsh comedy, and, in spite of everything being set up and paid off on, immensely surprising. Along the way, we explore the themes of relationships, job situation, money and happiness. The ingredients of life, right there! And it manages to mix in drama, and maintain its Irish roots and identity throughout. The occasional intercutting of mounting tensions in different locations is a great tool, and at no point do we lose interest or track of any of the connected tales.There is a lot of strong language, some bloody, violent and disturbing content and a little sexuality in this. The DVD comes with interesting interviews with crew(about 4 and a half minutes) and cast(7 and a half minutes) and trailers for The United States of Leland, The Butterfly Effect, Step on It, Monster, The Passion of The Christ, Sky Captain and the world of Tomorrow, Godsend and Inkasso. I recommend this to any fan of local flavor and the superb cast. 7/10

leonblackwood Review: I loved the beginning of this movie. Colin Farrell's character was excellent in this film but its a shame that he isn't in it more. There's many different stories to follow which all come together during the end. The director done well to mix up the comedy with a romance undertone, but it all looked like it was who on the cheap. Whilst watching the movie, I was wondering were the hell the director was going to go with the plot, but when it all comes together it turns out to be quite funny. All of the actors out in good performances, but its Farrell's character that stands out from the rest. In all, its a decent watch with many twists and turns. Watchable!Round-Up: Judging by the budget, I thought that the director done well with putting this project together. You don't actually realise how much ground it covers until the end of the movie when you piece it all together. I didn't really know what to expect before I watched the movie, which was why I enjoyed it more. You will definitely find something in this movie that will make you laugh. Budget: $5million Worldwide Gross: $4.8millionI recommend this movie to people who are into there Irish comedies with a bit of something for everyone. 5/10

robbreslin By way of response to so many bemused reviews, yes, Intermission wasn't specifically 'made for the American market', it is an Irish movie. Ha,its an Irish movie through and through. It is graphic, and hilarious. It is strikingly real at times, tongue in cheek at others.There are however universal stories being told throughout, things everyone understands, and the tone is unique. You can read the blurb to hear some of the storyline if you like so my job is to tell you that this is a very entertaining movie which adheres beautifully to the Irish sense of humour (spelled humour btw ha).Watch out for the young rebel in the red jacket, ten years old if he's a day, throwing rocks and causing scenes; therein lies the beauty of the humour and the tragedy of this film (thats film pronounced filim).Enjoy this movie people....!!
