Pluskylang Great Film overall
Matrixiole Simple and well acted, it has tension enough to knot the stomach.
WillSushyMedia This movie was so-so. It had it's moments, but wasn't the greatest.
Geraldine The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.
Zbigniew_Krycsiwiki If one can overlook two MASSIVE implausiblities, this is the best of the Hellraiser sequels. We are reintroduced to Ashley Laurence as Kirsty, before seemingly killing her in a car crash during the first scene. The focus is then shifted to her husband, and his fragile mental state following the accident, exacerbated by the odd behaviour of some of those around him, and the fact that he becomes the suspect in her death, and the deaths of several others. After tricking us into thinking Ashley Laurence's appearance is confined to a cameo appearance in the first scene, she is reintroduced again in the final third, when we learn it was really her husband who died in the car crash, and the entire film is taking place in his mind, as he lie dying. Pinhead plotted to get Kirsty after all these years, she made a deal with him to kill her husband and the women he was cheating on her with, in exchange for her own life. Kirsty herself killed her husband in the crash, after killing his mistresses, and the entire film is taking place in his mind in the final moments of his life, just like in Jacob's Ladder, again.Indeed, the biggest problem with this one is that it's almost identical to the previous film ( Hellraiser Inferno ) which itself was very similar to Jacob's Ladder. If this film had been made before the previous one, it would have fared better, and been more surprising. But as it is now, it really seems like they used almost the same script. Turning the heroine from parts one and two into the villain here is a daring move, not an easy feat to achieve successfully, but I feel they pulled it off well here. There should have been a final scene with Pinhead, perhaps proud of himself for tricking Kirsty into killing several people, thus ensuring her a place in his hell upon her ultimate death, and thus making it only a matter of time before she is his. Terrible colour tinting gives most scenes a deep blue tinge.
tomgillespie2002 A whopping 15 years after Clive Barker's masterful introduction to the hellish world of Pinhead and his Cenobite entourage comes the sixth entry into the Hellraiser franchise, and continues the tradition of each sequel becoming more and more removed from the original's mythology. Like the previous film, Hellraiser: Inferno (2000), Hellseeker feels like a stand-alone script with Barker's world of sadomasochism shoehorned in so that Dimension Films can retain the rights to a series that can be clumsily and cheaply churned out, and can be almost guaranteed to at least make its money back. One of the few things worthy of note in Hellseeker is the return of Ashley Laurence as Kirsty Cotton, who went A.W.O.L. after the third entry, Hell on Earth (1992). Instead on weaving her character back into the story, director Rick Bota opts instead to focus on her deadbeat husband Trevor, played by Oz's Dean Winters. After a car crash leaves Kirsty apparently dead, Trevor begins to suffer from delusions and a severe case of amnesia. He is being questioned by a couple of cops who are keen to get to the bottom of some unanswered questions, and he discovers that he has been cheating on his wife with a woman at work and a flirty neighbour. He is also plagued by flashbacks, including one where he gives his wife a birthday present, the Lament Configuration.Hellseeker takes 'inspiration' from many films, especially Angel Heart (1987) and Jacob's Ladder (1990). While those films used a fractured narrative as a way for the viewer to peek inside the damaged mind of its protagonist and to keep you guessing as the story unfolds. this dud simply has Winters awaken after every other scene rubbing his temples to reveal that the previous scene was 'just a dream', long after you had already guessed it. Winters is perfectly competent in the role, but his character just isn't interesting enough to hold your attention, and it's a wonder as to why the focus isn't on Laurence instead, whose tie-ins with the original trilogy would have made for a more intriguing experience. Doug Bradley is as solid as you would expect as Pinhead, but like most of the straight-to-video sequels, he is barely used, making for a completely boring and uninspired experience.
aaronrubalcava96 I signed on with google just to review this movie.. stay away from it !Why ? I'll cut some slack and make this short. 1. Doesn't have anything to do with the other movies, other than Kirsty being in it. 2. 30 minute mark, and pinhead makes a 4 second appearance. 3. 50 minute mark, the box is briefly shown. 4. Every 2 seconds, the main character either a)gets a headache or b)has a hallucination that's not interesting in any shape or form. 5. Movie consists of main character having a dream .. within a dream, within another dream. 6. The whole movie was a dream. Don't waste your time. If you love Hellraiser, and pinhead, and Kirsty and people torn apart by chains, while having a coherent plot, watch the first 2 movies. Avoid the rest of them.
KineticSeoul I really don't understand why some critics are claiming this is one of the better sequels in this franchise. This is the most boring and least interesting entry in my opinion. With every sequel it seems to go away from being a actual "Hellraiser" movie. The constant hallucinations is overdone and the unfaithful husband deal was already done in the 5th installment. I just couldn't really comprehend the direction of this movie and not in a good way either. It basically seemed like a horror tale from "Tales from the Crypt" or one of those "8 Films to Die For". Sure, the movie is about facing your demons and such, but it has been done before and better in the previous installments. This movie just didn't have much going on, so it just has bunch of hallucinations thrown in it with Pinhead basically just showing up at the very end mostly. If certain "Hellraiser" elements weren't in this movie, this movie by itself would be crap. I personally think it's because I saw the other "Hellraiser" movies that I am being lenient with this one. Because by itself, this movie is just garbage. I thought this would be a decent installment since Ashley Laurence is making a return in this as Kirsty Cotton Gooden who was in the first 2 "Hellraiser" movies. I don't know why she even bothered to be in this one besides for the paycheck. She is almost non-existent in this flick and I thought it would be Kirsty facing her demons one more time. The focus is far away from Pinhead and the cenobites as a matter of fact, it just seems like they are just something just tagged onto this flick. At least the 5th installment had psychedelic visuals. This movie sucks and it sucks even more that Kirsty is wasted in this. I give this a 2.3, because the ending is cool I guess.2.3/10
