Moustroll Good movie but grossly overrated
Maidexpl Entertaining from beginning to end, it maintains the spirit of the franchise while establishing it's own seal with a fun cast
Glucedee It's hard to see any effort in the film. There's no comedy to speak of, no real drama and, worst of all.
Michael Ledo Jack (Rob Corddry) and Vanessa (Leslie Bibb) who is very pregnant with twins moves into a Louisiana haunted house. F'resnel (Keegan Michael Key) lives in their crawl space. Meanwhile there is an umbrella killing happening in the Vatican as two Guido Sarducci wannabes head to New Orleans. The film is a generic spoof of horror films, lacking the good satire we have come to expect from the "Scary Movie" series. Much of the humor is overly slapstick while other humor is just downright stupid. "Hell Baby" is classified as a comedy horror without horror and needing quality comedy. The film had some good lines and a few good scenes, but unfortunately they couldn't maintain it. The police officers in the movie were a lame attempt at humor. The baby doesn't enter the film until it is nearly over and is insignificant to the production. The film will work as a low brow rental.Parental Guide: F-bomb, brief sex, full frontal nudity (Riki Lindhome)
Shopaholic35 Another movie that has been rated much lower then it deserves. Hell Baby is a great horror comedy parody with a good cast. Funnily, this movie is actually kind of scary and filled with tension. Usually you don't get a movie that is both scary and comical. It probably all comes down to the actors. They have real talent which helps to give the movie more impact. Of course there are still those too stupid for words moments but if you didn't expect it, what movie did you think you were watching?!?If I had to describe it I think it would be a cross between Rosemary's Baby and the original Scary Movie. It's based on an old classic but hasn't had the chance to get stale yet as we have not been forced to endure sequel after sequel...yet. So if you love the genre ignore the negative reviews and give it a go.
poe426 While I'm only forking over a six for HELL BABY, I have to admit that there were a couple of times that I laughed aloud: the sheer Absurdity of it makes it hard not to like- and Rob Corddry, an actor whose face I recognized, was the perfect choice to play the husband. In fact, it's because of Corddry that I coughed up (puked up? vomited up? regurgitated...?) six points. The RENO 911-Father Guido Sarducci team I could've lived without, although they had the potential to have been the funniest thing(s) about the movie. Poor writing and uninspired performances worked against them. The real star of the movie is The Baby, who comes out swinging. Not since IT'S ALIVE have we seen a tot as terrible.
Jacques Du Rand As soon as I was done with this little gem, I stroke it off my list of movies I would want in my collection. It is over promise and under deliver. If you are looking for some good cracks, this is not for you. If you are looking for a few laughs, this movie is not for you. If you are a fan of the director / actors, you better be die hard not to be disappointed. The plot never really develops. There are basically no themes under the story and there are no good effects. It is like a bad drag queen show in a has-been club. I enjoy many genres and there are quite a few b-grade movies that I have reviewed as good entertainment in the past. This was really just a total waste of budged that could have been better spent. Nothing really to say about the cinematography, the sets or anything. It just drags on. It is not even particularly bad. It really is a void of nothing. A good student exercise maybe to teach the camera team how to operate their equipment - at best.
