Moustroll Good movie but grossly overrated
AnhartLinkin This story has more twists and turns than a second-rate soap opera.
InformationRap This is one of the few movies I've ever seen where the whole audience broke into spontaneous, loud applause a third of the way in.
Aubrey Hackett While it is a pity that the story wasn't told with more visual finesse, this is trivial compared to our real-world problems. It takes a good movie to put that into perspective.
Anish Misra Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 is a film directed by David Yates. Since this was the second last instalment, my anticipation for this one was sky high. And after watching the film, I can say that that film exceeded all my expectations.Plot: Harry, Ron and Hermione team up to destroy the secret to his immortality - Horcruxes.Story and direction: This film started the trend of the last part being split up to two films. But I can say without doubt that none have achieved the level of greatness that this film achieved. As I have stressed in the previous instalments, the character work in this film is just like no other film series. The makers know what the audience expects and just taps on to that. From the very first scene you know that the stakes are real and the setting itself made me worry for the safety of the characters. We have some amazing action sequences in the film which are very beautifully shot and nicely edited. The film mostly takes place between the 3 main characters of the film. And it never feels boring just to watch them doing what they are great at. Alexandre Desplat's score is just amazing. The sets and camera work for the film is beautiful. The VFX is the best the series has to offer. Some characters do suffer consequences and you do feel sad for them. The film does end in a cliffhanger but that will not disappoint as it is known the film will continue.Performances: Daniel Radcliffe was great as Harry Potter. The emotional depth this character has is deep and you feel for him. Emma Watson as Hermione Granger is just great. For the first time in the series, I felt the emotional side of this character. Rupert Grint successfully portrays a different side of Ronald Weasley. This film does introduce Bill Nighy as Rufus Scrimgeour. The role is small but good enough to leave an impression. Also introduced here is Rhys Ifans as Xenophilius Lovegood. I did feel the role was good but a bit unnecessary.Favorite Scene: It would be a scene when Harry decides to cheer Hermione when she is sad by having a small dance with her. This scene showed the maturity and understanding these characters have for each other. I came to know from somewhere that this scene was nowhere in the book. So it is a big pat on the makers' back for innovating something new and presenting us in a good way.Verdict: For a second last film in a franchise, this film does justice. It sets up scenes for what is about to come and makes us ready for some consequences that might not just be in our favour. Thanks again to David Yates, Steve Kloves and the entire team of Harry Potter for bringing us a franchise that knows how to treat a particular story with respect. I can't just wait for the final instalment.I am going with a 10.
Defected74 This movie is without a doubt drawn out and overly exaggerated. I haven't read the books, but I can't believe that JK Rowlings would have written hundreds of pages of boring material with nothing happening. This movie lacks interest and could have been edited down to one hour of screen time for an extended version of both deathly hollows as one movie. I'm not impressed one bit by this 2.5 hour snore.
EBJ Directed by David YatesStarring Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert GrintOverall: This movie is definitely the weakest of the franchise but I would still recommend it. It works as a setup but not as a movie in and off itself.Good:1. Daniel Radcliffe was superb as Harry Potter and brings new levels of emotion to the renowned character.2. Both Emma Watson and Rupert Grint do great jobs as Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley respectively.3. The story of the main trio hunting down the Seven Horcruxes was a neat idea though could have been better done here.4. Across both Deathly Hallows pt 1 & 2, it contains one of the best individual story lines in the series. Sadly, it was poorly done in this movie.5. I love the editing and the lighting in the movie and it seriously packs a punch in dire moments.6. Excellent music.7. Superb special effects.8. The movie is primarily character driven and starts to unleash a cauldron of emotion bubbling over the course of 6 movies.9. Incredible opening.Bad:1. I think the story was pretty poorly executed.2. Some scenes could have been shortened, or even left out entirely.3. Very, very underwhelming action segments in the movie. It's a character driven movie but that doesn't excuse lazy action.4. Every action scene was very poorly filmed.7/10
alindsay-al I have almost finished my harry potter series an I have just watched the deathly hallows part one and ultimately like it's predecessor the half blood prince it is alright but I believe it is a bit disappointing. The premise of the film sees harry, Ron and Hermione going after the horcruxes that give voldermort his power. Daniel Radcliffe is known for his role in these films and he has really matured into a great character. Harry is much darker in this film because of the events of the previous film and Radcliffe does a really good job of making us buy the pressure that his character is under. Hermione and Ron are more pivotal in this film and they are great, you can tell they are growing closer together but they still argue like an old married couple. The three characters chemistry together and development is clearly the best part of this film. Unfortunately though the rest of the supporting characters aren't given any time to shine and come across as forced cameos for the most part. The story has some great character development between our heroes and you really want to see them succeed. However, it does come across as a basic treasure hunt an it just feels like setup for the next movie. The script is allot darker and has some great drama that you actually believe. But it does lack the humour that has made these characters more relatable. The style of this film is better then the previous, there are way more action scenes in this film with the darker tone working for the action scenes. But like the majority of these films it does drag a little bit and this film does slow down at a point quite allot. Overall I thought this was an alright film but it does feel like a setup for the next film which I hope is fantastic.
