Odelecol Pretty good movie overall. First half was nothing special but it got better as it went along.
Cooktopi The acting in this movie is really good.
Donald Seymour This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.
Dana An old-fashioned movie made with new-fashioned finesse.
classicsoncall If you watch this film in tandem with 2005's "March of the Penguins", you'll be amazed to discover that the film makers for this animated movie got a lot of the science about Emperor Penguins exactly right. I'm talking about the breeding habits, the 'heartsong' business, care for the egg by the male penguin and how they survive those brutal, wintery conditions by rotating huddled bodies in and out against fierce windstorms. Since I saw 'March' not long ago, those thoughts are still fresh in my mind, so it's easy to make the comparison. For kids, this has to be a generally warm and fuzzy movie, though for impressionable youngsters, there's also some danger present with predatory hunting birds, leopard seals and a particularly clever, though brutal badminton game played by killer sharks with two of the film's penguin heroes. Fortunately, all the picture's 'good guys' make it through to the end in fine form.Somehow though, there seems to be some sort of disconnect with the way the picture arrives at it's conclusion. With a plot element involving the disappearance of the penguins primary food source, and a connection made to 'alien' human beings as the cause, there's a hasty resolution to the problem whereby the world community gets on board with the penguins plight and everything is made good again. I didn't see that connection, and I don't think you will either, but if you can disregard that inconsistent flaw, you'll probably have a good time with those colorful Emperor penguins and the clever animation.
Gavin Cresswell (gavin-thelordofthefu-48-460297) In 2006, Warner Bros and Animal Logic teamed up to make a CGI motion capture animated feature film known as Happy Feet, a story about a tap dancing penguin named Mumble (voiced by Frodo Baggins - I mean Elijah Wood) who, after being born from an egg, has an ability to tap dance everywhere he goes and embarks on a quest to make peace with the humans who took their food while learning to accept himself as he really is.Happy Feet is still as good as I remembered it. However, before I can get to the good stuff, there is one problem I do have. And that is the environmentalist message. The story is supposed to be about acceptance, but the whole "humans stealing our food" concept did get really preachy and the whole movie could've been stronger without it. I'm not angry about it. It's just that they didn't do anything new with it. Just a nitpick. Everything else still holds up. The voice acting is top notch with great performances from Elijah Wood, Brittany Murphy, Hugh Jackman, Nicole Kidman, Hugo Weaving, and the late Robin Williams, who committed suicide in August 2014, stealing the show as both Ramon and Lovelace, two hilarious and entertaining characters since the Genie from Disney's Aladdin. The animation is gorgeous with a great scale on Antarctica and the penguins even though the human motion capture doesn't have the same level. The best part, however, is the musical numbers which consists of cover versions including the Boogie Wonderland sequence and with the help of John Powell's lush and beautiful musical score, it's still the most memorable scene. Overall, Happy Feet may not have anything groundbreaking to make it stand out from the likes of Pixar and DreamWorks, but with lush animation, endearing characters, and memorable musical cover songs, it still tap dances perfectly on it's 10th anniversary. Happy New Year, everybody! :)
mbb-47570 I love this animated movie. Period. And I am a male grown up in my late 40s. I have seen it several times. In the movie theater. On DVD. And recently on Blu-ray and HD TV. It looks absolutely stunning! The music and dancing are great. And the environmental friendly storyline is a lot of fun from the beginning to the end. I especially like that it is a happy movie, even though it has serious undertones. The action is great - and it is easy to identify oneself with Mumble. I just don't understand why so many reviewers hate this movie. Maybe they have never appreciated to dance in the snow? Or they have forgotten how it was to be a child?
PartialMovieViewer This movie might have been good if it was devoid of all the divisive political undertones. I am all for saving the world, stopping the hate and riding the 'guilt wagon' into the sunset. But to have this as a regular menu item on all that is, "Hollywierd" or Disney – is just a reflection of youthful arrogance or aging culpability. Stop wasting my time and money preaching your personal views and opportunism. Sadly, the skill-levels of the visual artists involved in this effort, tower miles above the script writers, directors, producers and others influencing the content. Give us a break, please. Leave your politics at home and please stop trying to poison the well of children. That, I think, is more offensive than the strong sexual content within this movie. Don't get me wrong, sexual content (if you really can't write anything without it) can be fine - when it is skillfully hidden. In 'Happy Feet', it was not. I am sure the young will love this production, great – congratulations – you made your money. I used to be a fan of Disney films, but more and more, find them more repulsive than enjoyable. Most productions are not for kids anymore…unless their new intention is to divide youth form youth, or children from parents…I don't know. At this point, what difference does it make, I don't care. For this movie, I wish I could get this part of my life back. I will not see another Disney production unless I get positive feedback from a trusted source.
