Perfect cast and a good story

Highly Overrated But Still Good

There are moments that feel comical, some horrific, and some downright inspiring but the tonal shifts hardly matter as the end results come to a film that's perfect for this time.

This movie is neither outstanding, nor groundbreaking in any way, shape or form, yet still, it's a contained, tension filled, entertaining thriller that I pretty much have no complaints about. Acting, directing and camera-work are all tight, and what I really appreciated is that every setup in the movie had a payoff, which shows that they actually put effort in the script. This is probably the best performance I've seen from Tara Reid (she is really good throughout the film!), and Rip Pardue is also impressive as the male lead. This movie wouldn't have worked without these two strong performances, but they pulled it off really well. Even though it was made 14 years ago, and I've seen it two or three times already, it still holds up.

I watched this last night and it wasn't that bad. But it could have been better. In the beginning I thought they were trying to fool us, that the movie was gonna have a nice little twist in the end where we would see that she was the insane one all along and had imagined things about him. I was quite sure of this cause I thought she acted quite irrational. But as the movie went along I began to realise that this great thought of mine (!) was probably a mistake. And that was a disappointment. The movie would have been a little bit better if it turned out that she was the psychotic one. Despite my disappointment, I was surprised by this movie in a good way. I had never heard of it and expected it to be bad actually. I've seen so many lousy, unheard of movies lately that I've had to turn off...But this one I finished. It was a bit predictable at times, but most movies are anyway. I'll give it a 5 or a 6, at least.

Well to be honest I saw the previews and the last 15 minutes only. It didn't appeal to me due to the overall dark tone. However while watching the last 15 minutes I did become a bit intrigued as I paralleled the plot to the abusive marriages that so many women must endure in our society today. The physical and emotional abuse that leaves women feeling enslaved by their spouse and their ultimate fear of death if they were to "leave" the marriage/home. I felt the agony, fear, terror, hopelessness while she strategized and struggled to escape. I saw the conflict within the women in the end with she is faced with the prospect of killing her husband yet feeling empathy. I also felt the absolute freedom that must have been felt when she finally did escape....

This film starts off with a young couple getting married, Mitch, (Kip Pardue) and Julianne, (Tara Reid) who recently graduated from high school and comes from a well to do family. During the wedding party there are toasts being made by Mitch and if you listen closely you will find something very strange about Mitch's toast about his father being absent from his wedding. Mitch brings his new bride Julianne to a far away place in the mountains of Montana and a house which is on a very small island. There is a row boat that is the only transportation to their house which is really a very rustic cabin with no comforts of home and no running water. In other words, this couple are going to have a honeymoon with no nice soft beds and matches are needed to start the cooking. As this film moves along you begin to find it very strange and then you start to feel very sorry this couple ever got married. Enjoy.
