Gabrielle Wilchie Directed by Tyler Perry, Daddy's Little girls is one of my favorite films of all time. Tyler Perry, known for the infamous character "Madea", creates a love story between two people who come from two totally different backgrounds. Idris Elba plays the dad, Monty. Tasha Smith plays Jennifer, the ex-wife. Gabrielle Union plays the lawyer, Julia. Monty is struggling mechanic and single father of three girls from a poor minority neighborhood. Monty is faced with a big problem. His ex-wife, who is a drug dealer, has been awarded custody of his three daughters. Monty seeks help from a beautiful and educated lawyer with an ivy-league background, Julia. Monty and Julia met when Monty briefly took the job as a chauffeur. This movie is a comedy and drama and is generally PG-13. This one-hundred-minute film was released in theaters on February 14, 2007 an available on DVD on June 12, 2007. In my opinion, the cast was very well selected. Gabrielle Union is a very successful African American actress who has been in over thirty-three films. She is my favorite female actress. Idris Elba has been in forty films and twenty-three for Ms. Tasha Smith.I love the stories that are set up within the movie. Monty portrays as a good man who makes only enough to make ends meet. It gets harder though when he has to fight to gain full custody of his daughters before their mother, Jennifer, takes them. Jennifer is the girlfriend of Jo, the biggest drug dealer in the area. Jo has the entire community afraid of him, so, naturally, Monty doesn't want his daughters growing up around this. The subplot enters when Monty hires a lawyer, Julia, whose life is the exact opposite of Monty's. She works in corporate America and is very well off.During the time, Julia is down on her luck with her love life. After spending time with Monty, Julia falls in love with her not so typical type.By the sound of all of that, you'd think that this movie is a bit complicated, but it is not. The movie offers so many different real life messages. The film sheds light on many situations such as rape; inappropriate incarceration; child abuse (both sexual and physical); class-ism; the fact that good people can be stuck living in terrible communities; forgiveness; gang-drug activity; revenge; and more. These are some real life issues that are very much overlooked.I think all African-American mothers and father should see this movie. The message is powerful and there is a lesson to be learned. Even people that don't have children should watch this film. You never know what kind of situations you will encounter when you become a parent because life is not predictable, and you always have to stay strong for the people who are depending on you.
jessicacopeland39 There are two moments in this movies that I don't understand. One of the girls was caught at school selling drugs why wasn't the cops called especially when she was staying with her mother and her boyfriend. Two the rape case was closed it should not have disregarded. Also wouldn't the why didn't anyone say that he was falsely accused of rape. An seriously how long did the police investigating Jennifer's boyfriend two hours! The man has a reputation of selling drugs and he has three girls living under the same roof. This guy is suppose to be a big drug dealer the man only has like four thugs working for him. Why did it take the guy running his car into the other guys car for the nieghborhood to band together to take him down. This movie has a lot of padding. This movie is flat as tap water. BET plays this movie to death.
OverCut unrealistic.... so if you take out the whole lawyer and driver falling in love so unrealistically then you actually have a great story. it ain't all about love Tyler Perry.I loved the whole community and the boyfriend and Tasha Smith character, Union delivered well, but the entire story was as contrived as all the other Tyler drama. Is he trying to say this is what blacks want to watch?is he saying blacks cannot watch intellectual works? or maybe comprehend them?I don't see how anyone will think this is a good movie. I loved it as it started, but then the falling in love thing just took me out!!! Why couldn't Julia fall in love with the kind of man she wanted? a high class black man? It's very possible OK, that a highly educated black woman making 6 figures can meet a man who is her match.
chris miller Tyler perry's latest effort follows in the frank Capra school of film-making. he takes a john doe and personalizes his struggle in what could be perceived as a weepy or cheesy manner, but it ultimately works because of the execution. let me get this clear up front: perry isn't frank Capra and this film isn't Mr. deeds goes to town or Mr. smith goes to Washington. of course, Capra was around longer when he made those and he had the efforts of greats like James Stewart and Gary cooper. but while this film doesn't reach the heights of Capra, it does tell a good, human story and it does so with some entertainment and humanity. some of the acting could have been better and i would have liked a fuller, more colorful (as in more entertaining or well-rounded) cast. one thing that makes Capra films (as well as Anthony Mann films) so good is the cast of secondary characters who act as foils to the protagonist, as well as offer comic relief. this film works because of the work perry does early in the film to establish some comedy and intrigue. just a couple touches here and there can be the difference between an engaged and invested audience and one that is checking their watches. B+.
