Details

An Innuit hunter races his sled home with a fresh-caught halibut. This fish pervades the entire film, in real and imaginary form. Meanwhile, Axel tags fish in New York as a naturalist's gofer. He's happy there, but a messenger arrives to bring him to Arizona for his uncle's wedding. It's a ruse to get Axel into the family business. In Arizona, Axel meets two odd women: vivacious, needy, and plagued by neuroses and familial discord. He gets romantically involved with one, while the other, rich but depressed, plays accordion tunes to a gaggle of pet turtles

hrkepler Dreamy Dream About the DreamArizona Dream' seems and feels like a dream itself. The film starts with beautiful dream sequence that is discussed by the characters many times throughout the movie, also the elements from the dream that seem to be escaped into 'real' world carry much significance, but never feel distracting or out of place. It is probably one of the strangest movies of all times that is also a masterful piece of serious filmmaking (yeah, take that David Lynch). Weird moments and peculiar scenes change with scenes that are realistic and dramatically masterful, but without any drastic change in the overall mood of the film. Subtle humor is mixed with laugh out loud absurd moments while there are enough well thought out drama and tragedy. The realism ties the peculiarities into one, and the peculiarities tie the realism into one. The surrealistic cinematic landscape is covered with fantastic music by Goran Bregovich, and of course superb performances by Johnny Depp and Faye Dunaway supported by wonderful cast of Jerry Lewis, Lili Taylor and Vincent Gallo.'Arizona Dream' might not be for everyone's taste, but it is one of the strangest great films of all times.
gridoon2018 "Arizona Dream" is the first, and so far only, English-language, shot-in-America film of Emir Kusturica. It was not a commercial success, and it's easy to see why: it's an unmarketable, unclassifiable film. It's about dreams, love, loss, and movies (but not necessarily in that order). It runs nearly two and a half hours, the characters are all oddballs, it switches from broad comedy to intense drama at a moment's notice, and it has a depressing ending. And yet, there is something to be said about a director who breaks the "rules" of movie-making, such as the traditional "three-act" structure. "Arizona Dream", like a dream, is more about the journey than the destination: the journey is sometimes bumpy, but often magical (there are a couple of amazing scenes, for which it is better to be unprepared); Goran Bregovic's music is extraordinarily powerful, and the entire cast is great. *** out of 4.
Wizard-8 Since you probably know that Johnny Depp appears in this movie, you have probably concluded that like most other Johnny Depp movies, this particular one is also weird. And you would be right. In fact, this may be the strangest movie Depp has appeared in. It's a constantly surreal movie, with bizarre images and characters acting in extremely eccentric ways. Normally those kind of things might throw me off, but I have to admit that it was made in a way that's pretty compelling and kept me watching. The acting by everyone is good, and this is definitely one movie you won't be able to say you've seen before. I'll admit the last half hour of the movie kind of falls apart, there are a few plot points that seem murky (like how the relationship between Depp and Faye Dunaway evolves), and the movie is definitely not a mass audience film. But if you have the taste for something different, you should probably give this movie a try.
Chuck Mason I was Best Boy on this show. The most pleasant movie experience I've had. Gunnison, Nome (in Feb!), Douglas AZ, Nogales AZ, and a ranch near the Mexican border. I just saw the Director's Cut last night in L.A. ------ Where is the 1000' mag Steadicam shot?! We built an entire cyclorama stage in the alley behind the auto dealer, painted outerspace, rigged a Caddy on a forklift, lit it big (including the only Titan arcs that Mole Richardson had working at the time), and flew a wall up and down for various parts of the 10:00 shot. It was great. Where is it!? That scene took lots of work, time, thought, rehearsal, and we were all very proud of it. I think we did 3 takes, and at dailies (upstairs in the deserted department store next to the hotel) the whole crew was thrilled. Where is that shot?!?!?!?!!?
