Reuben Feffer is a guy who's spent his entire life playing it safe. Polly Prince is irresistible as a free-spirit who lives for the thrill of the moment. When these two comically mismatched souls collide, Reuben's world is turned upside down, as he makes an uproarious attempt to change his life from middle-of-the-road to totally-out-there.

Karry Best movie of this year hands down!
SpuffyWeb Sadly Over-hyped
Pacionsbo Absolutely Fantastic
Mathilde the Guild Although I seem to have had higher expectations than I thought, the movie is super entertaining.
Majikat It's not often I like romantic comedies, but this one is easy watching and I love the opposites attract in this film. The funny bits are the uncomfortable bits!
benaboo I just watched this movie and it's not terrific but it's not down right horrible. I thought Ben Stiller and Jennifer Anniston made a fine couple but maybe not the most believable. The good things about this movie are the actors are good for the most part, I thought Philip Seymour Hoffman was very funny as Ben Stiller's best friend, and there are definitely some things about the movie that are funny. What I don't like about this movie are while I thought Alec Baldwin was good in it I thought he was a little out of place but that's only a minor detail. I didn't care for the dancing scenes, Hank Azaria who I thought was good in Night At The Museum 2 was not enjoyable in this and the movie is full of gross out humor. I don't entirely mind that but like Ben Stiller's character I am germaphobic and I have IBS. I had to fast forward the bathroom scene and I'm glad I did. This is one of many movies that came out in 2004 that had Ben Stiller. This one was okay, Starsky and Hutch is one that I really enjoy, I have never seen Envy nor do I plan to, Dodgeball was pretty funny, and Meet The Fockers is my favorite. Anchorman is actually but he only had a cameo in it. I may need to re-watch it because it wasn't that bad it was just weird and had a lot of gross out humor.
gavin6942 A buttoned up newlywed (Ben Stiller) finds his too organized life falling into chaos when he falls in love with an old classmate (Jennifer Aniston). At its core, this is a romantic comedy. And as such, it has the problem of following that same plot that all romantic comedies follow. So the film cannot be given too much credit as far as originality goes. But it does have a bit more humor, because Stiller is not your typical leading man. He is not overly handsome by any means, and often not even funny. What really sells this film, though, and makes it more good than bad, is the performance of Phillip Seymour Hoffman. Although only a supporting role, he is pretty darn funny, and steals every scene he is in -- the basketball scene, the insurance pitch... he is brilliant.
Amy Adler Reuben (Ben Stiller) is a risk management analyst for a company which insures powerful executives. He is very good at his job and pleases his boss (Alec Baldwin) exceedingly. How does he miss on his choice of a marital partner? But, alas, he does. On his honeymoon, Reuben discovers his bride in a tryst with the scuba diving instructor, Claude (Hank Azaria). Back in Manhattan, heartbroken Reuben makes plans to move into the house he bought for his future wedded bliss. Soon after, Reuben is talked into going to an art show by his best friend and struggling actor, Sandy (Philip Seymour Hoffman). Lo and behold, he runs into Polly (Jennifer Aniston) who he knew long ago in high school. She's single, beautiful, and sweet. This is the instant cure he needs for his woes! Not so fast, Rube, Polly is not your match on paper. She likes spicy food, moving frequently, keeping a ferret, and supporting herself with a variety of jobs. As the supreme planner and avoider of risk, how could Polly be a long term romance for Reuben? This funny film has its moments of mirth and is satisfying in concept. Also, the cast is terrific, all, including those named above and such folks as Bryan Brown and Michele Lee. Sets and costumes are also quite nice. What is wrong with the script, my view, is that it often resorts to the most grotesque humor, bodily functions, toilet accidents, etc. Even a wonderfully happy ending doesn't erase this icky humor from the big picture. Therefore, although it is entertaining in parts, those looking for the best in romantic comedy should not get this one. Just Like Heaven, for example, is a better choice. But, this viewer concedes that some may like this one better for the very faults I list.
