Age of the Dragons is an adaptation of Herman Melville's classic novel Moby Dick. Set in a medieval realm where Captain Ahab and crew hunt dragons for the vitriol that powers their world, Ishmael, a charismatic harpooner and his friend Queequeg join their quest. Ahab's adopted daughter Rachel, beautiful and tough, runs the hunting vessel. Ahab's obsession to seek revenge on a great White Dragon that slaughtered his family when he was young and left his body scarred and mauled, drives the crew deeper into the heart of darkness. In the White Dragon's lair Ahab's secrets are revealed and Rachel must choose between following him on his dark quest or escaping to a new life with Ishmael.

Leofwine_draca AGE OF THE DRAGONS is a cheap fantasy rework of Melville's MOBY DICK, with Danny Glover taking on the role of the crazed Captain Ahab, determined to hunt down and kill the dragon responsible for burning him as a child. Most of the character names are the same as those of the novel, but the plotting is a no-rent succession of lame actors chewing their way through horrid dialogue while a CGI dragon flies around occasionally.Yes, this is bargain basement stuff, along the lines of the DUNGEONS & DRAGONS sequels or IN THE NAME OF THE KING films. It's short in a boring, murky way, and Glover is doubled for half his scenes. In those bits where the actor really is on set, he chews his lines horrifically and seems to vie with guest star Vinnie Jones in who can give the jokiest performance. Still, even they're better than the wooden younger cast, and they in turn outdo the appallingly cheap CGI dragon effects. This is a waste of time through and through.
Rasalgheti_2000 catered only 10 minutes watching this "movie" to realize that they had completely tainted the novel Moby Dick. Oh God, Mr. Melville must kick in his grave every time this "movie" is projected or seen or even mentioned. It is truly remarkable that Hollywood screenwriters, are empty minded completely out of ideas, and every day the only thing that matters is to put one or two fairly known actors, some cgi some muscular guy and a hot girl in a "movie" to assure the investment. The era of smart movies with meaning, with a moral lesson has ended, I am 42 years old, and I must say that my generation was the last which saw a movie with sense.
P.N. I can honestly say that this movie ranks among the worst movies I have ever seen. The spin on Moby Dick is clear from the beginning, but the writing is atrocious. The costumes and characters cross time eras and geography inconsistently. They cross the lands in a motorized tank-like ship during an era when travel is clearly done by foot or horseback although I guess their budget didn't allow for horses since none are ever seen. The writing is horrible and the movie lacks enough action/cgi/comedy to convince you to suffer through it. I cannot think of a single tension breaking comedic moment although there is no tension to break, so I suppose it didn't matter. The movie is full of worthless and verbose dialog. Every scene was contrived and predictable. Every character was a cliché, and I'm trying to be kind considering that it's a different spin on a classic story.
Chris Laymon For the past 20 years, the worst movie I had ever seen was White Fang (6.5 stars on IMDb? Seriously?). As of last night, I now have a NEW worst movie.I rated this movie a 2 only because the visuals were decent. The movie was horrible otherwise. I figured Danny Glover wouldn't be in anything with this terrible of a script, but maybe he was trying to stretch his acting chops or something. Well, stretch he did...way overly intense on his lines. Seemed like he was trying to summon some sort of stage actor vibe, which didn't work well on screen. The girl was one of the worst in the movie. Looked like she had about a half inch of makeup on and really heavy lipstick, which made her look out of place in this time period. Her acting was OK at times, but other times I literally laughed. "When this reacts with air, it WILL explode..." Oh, boy...All in all, the movie was junk. I rented it on redbox for $1. Wish I could get that $1 back. ;)
